I'm currently mid-late 30s and I've always had an awful time with periods etc so been in and out of the gp since I started secondary school. I can't take the pill due to the side effects which rules out most other forms of hormonal contraception due to the side effects, and I tried the mirena coil but it was also awful. At the moment I'm not using anything and things are marginally better and I just use painkillers for heavy painful periods.
My issue is that every month around or just after my period I go into a total fog, I have zero energy, I struggle to make decisions, I'm highly emotional and where I'm normally very active it's like my legs turn to lead overnight and walking etc is like trying to move through thick mud. I also get a little dizzy and migraines.
I feel like it's hormonal since it's usually all happening around my period and the rest of the month I feel fairly fit and healthy and I'm active. Does anyone have any advice or reliable sources of info on balancing hormones or what I could try that might help regulate this a bit?
I'm a lone parent to a toddler and 90% of the time I'm a fit match for crazy toddler energy but on days like today when I'm on my period I could just sleep the clock round and just about manage to get us both up and dressed. Ds has had way more screen time today than I would ever normally give him and the guilt is eating me.
