Teacher Salary Sacrifice

Hi all,

I am a teacher and have a car on salary sacrifice - I have done for years. I am moving to a new job and they have told me teachers are not allowed cars on salary sacrifice! On researching, it seems they are correct. Does anyone know anything about this?
Not sure why my employers approved me if it’s not allowed! Confused!

I’ve taught for 30 years and this is definitely NOT a thing, due to a historical loophole in the STPCD.

Take the win that you’ve so far had OP 👌🏻 It’s not right of course that we are excluded, but it is the case unfortunately. There have been many campaigns to change the ridiculous oversight in STPCD policy, so fingers crossed one day soon it will be resolved! 😬

I've been reading about this recently, I think there are some EV schemes which are allowed.

When I talk to friends working as teachers vs those in e.g. NHS the teachers have MUCH worse conditions in everything other than holidays. So sadly I'm not surprised at this!

I had several posts in teaching, as an advisory teacher, which required travel between schools. The price per mile for fuel, decreased alarmingly and frequently and there was never an option for a salary sacrifice car. I also had to have a relatively new and reliable car.

It was ok for EVs but the ESFA have put it on pause and are looking at it so it can’t be offered at the moment. Hopefully it’ll come back.

I have been told in the past that SS impacts the TP and that is the reason. I don’t know the veracity of this as it was an accountant’s educated guess as to why it may be the case.

I’m starting to think HR messed up. This is my third car on salary sacrifice. just seems
odd they haven’t realised this at any point. I am so confused.
