a v good friend arrived yesterday on a suprise visit - haven’t seen her in a year or more and tonight I was going to go out with other friends and DH. DH says friend and I shouldn’t go out with them as last time she was here she annoyed everyone. Wwyd?

I mean, I am unusual on MN in that I like people popping in for a cuppa when they are passing, but if someone turned up on a day I already had plans for the evening, I'd be saying "Well it's been lovely seeing you, but we've got plans tonight so you are going to have to make tracks. Next time, lets see if we can arrange a day that's convenient for both of us".
I wouldn't be inviting her into a group she isn't part of, and 100% more so if your dh doesn't enjoy her company.

You probably need to run it past the rest of the group anyway tbh and make it clear there is absolutely no expectation for them to agree. I wouldn’t be impressed if you just showed up with an extra without telling me first if I was your friend!

Given that your friend pitched up without warning I think it would be acceptable to go out without her anyway. Is she staying with you?

Thank you! Friend texted Thursday night, arrived Friday and I thought she was here till Sunday, but no, Wednesday.

im happy to stay in and keep them away from friends, but I am a bit fed up tbh. I was looking forward to tonight. They have had a health scare so I guess that’s something to do with it
