When to remove side from bed?

DD (2.5) announced she was done with nappies last weekend. The first day or two were a struggle (see previous post) but now she’s over the “frightening” bit and seems to be fully toilet trained? She’s still in a convertible baby bed, is it time to take the side off? She’s been dry overnight for three nights now and wearing regular pants. I didn’t expect this would happen so quickly!

Mine were in a single bed with a roll out bar at that age, so they could get out of the bottom of the bed.

Mine was in a standard single at that age (with a fold up mattress on the floor next to the bed) as by 2.5 could climb over the side of the cot.

DC1 was a bit younger when he went into the bed as we needed the cot for DC2.

It's fine if you're happy to go every time they call for the toilet. But if not I would take the side off the bed so they can access the potty etc when they need to

Thank you, she’s never tried to climb out of the bed and I hadn’t thought we’d be taking the side off for some time. Her bedroom door is right next to our staircase, any suggestions for having her use a potty in her room? So far she’s been averse and only wants the toilet, not keen on her walking next to the stairs in the middle of the night!

Can you put a night light in the hallway so she can see if she gets up in the night?
Else a stair gate - mine would have climbed it though, so not sure if that's a good suggestion or not.

We did put a potty in the bedroom for a week or so, but she never used it as she preferred to go to the toilet. I put 3 or 4 disposable mattress covers down, covered them with towels and out the potty in the middle.

I had a stair gate at the top and bottom of the stairs once they were mobile
