Seville for 4 days in March, where to spend the other 3 within easy reach of Malaga airport ?

We’re off to Spain beginning of March next year for 7 days. Spending time in Seville with a side trip to Cordoba or Granada. We’ve then got 3 days to chill, possibly by the coast. Was thinking Nerja but now wondering if Malaga would be a better bet if the weather’s dicey ? Flight home is at 12 midday so could do with not being that far away or isolated ! Anyone any ideas ? Tia

Cadiz.

Marbella.

Malaga is lovely.

Another thumbs up for Malaga. Great city. The weather can indeed be changeable in March (last two years have been bit rainy), and Malaga will deffo be better than Nerja if that's the case.

Malaga….you definitely won’t be bored, food & drink are fab, so much to see & do.

GinandGingerBeer · 25/04/2025 11:06

Yes Malaga has everything you need. Beach/bars/culture/beautiful architecture. I love it for an easy short break. Nerja is lovely off season too. I’ve just done a week there and it was lovely.

Rivypike · 25/04/2025 11:27

Yes thinking about Malaga. There’s a recent post on trip advisor claiming it was dirty and full of litter. This may have been in summer when more tourists. Anyone been recently ?
Better to stay in old town or somewhere further out like El palo or Pedrejaleo ? These are more residential I believe…

I was in Malaga 2 weeks ago and it was not dirty or littered. Very busy as it was Palm Sunday. There was plenty to do - it was lovely.

I was there in March this year. Weather was changeable but it was fantastic. Beach if sun comes out, bars and restaurants were great. Can do a bus day trip out to Nerja if you fancy. Was only about 6 euros and took less than 90 mins. They go every hour or so. Also did Nerja in Feb and was less to do - it rained there too lol.

My vote is Mlaga - there were also some festivals on with street music and floats, was great.

Rivypike · 25/04/2025 11:34

Or even Estepona ?

I think Malaga.
Estepona and Marbella are a hike to the airport unless you want to get up early.

We were there in March, had good weather. no litter in evidence. Plenty to do.

Hoolihan · 25/04/2025 11:40

Another vote for Malaga! It's fabulous.

Rivypike · 25/04/2025 11:55

Thanks everyone! Where did you stay so you can see a bit of beach and old town ? Suspect we’ll be a bit cultured out by this point but best placed for museums etc if weather poor…

Malaga is pretty small so if you look for places that come under Malaga Centro or Malaga Historico you'll be within walking distance to everywhere.

bigknitblanket · 25/04/2025 12:00

Malaga is lovely and I don’t recall it being dirty or litter filled when I went a couple of years ago.

OMGitsnotgood · 25/04/2025 12:18

Will you be travelling by train? If so, I think I’m right in saying that the Seville-Malaga trains all go via Cordoba. So it might make sense to check out left luggage options and visit Cordoba en route to Malaga.

If you have a car, I’d stay in/near Malaga for easy reach to airport and you could do a day trip to Nerja or Mijas as well as enjoying Malaga.

Another vote for Malaga.

No sign of litter / dirty when we were there 2 weeks ago. Were there for 3 days - plenty to do - we did a guided walk, visited the Alcazaba, mooched around the old city and along the 'prom'.

Great food and wine.
We took to train to Cordoba - very impressed with the train service
