People in the south - what do you pay for a gardener?

Thinking of getting someone to come every couple of weeks or so to do basic mowing, weeding, keeping things tidy etc. Just wondering what the going rate is so I can gauge how much is reasonable. We're in the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire area.

£20 per hour.

£25 per hour - coastal Devon.

That's about what I was expecting, tbh. I've heard anything between 15 and 50 and thought woah, that's not helpful at all 😂 I guess maybe if they were a full landscaper or RHS trained they would charge more but that's more than what I need.

Mine is £25 in south London but he’s only here about 25 min

£25 - massively up on the guy I used to have who was £15 (now retired) but blimey - he probably does 4-5 times as much work as the previous guy. So worth every penny for me, the garden is looking fabulous since he started.

Someone at £25 who can do the same amount of work in 2hrs that takes 4hrs for someone who charges £15 is a bargain.

We pay £27.50 for a lawn cut (priced by job and not hour) and then £25 an hour for a gardener to come and do weeding. We don’t do weekly for either. I think we’d be paying another £10 an hour for a proper gardener that really knows plants.

I had an amazing guy for about a month who very quickly left when I got a full time job gardening at an estate. He’s the only person I’ve ever had that has an encyclopaedic knowledge of plants. He was really brilliant so I was a bit gutted but not surprised.

£25 an hour. He’s brilliant - really knows his stuff and gets lots done.

Our last gardener was £27.50 per hour and he was incredible, knew exactly what to do and could achieve more in 2 hours than I can in a month. We had him fortnightly but it just became too expensive and we had to stop.

I now have someone who charges £12.50 per hour but is far more junior. He's training for his gardening exams so I suspect he'll put his rates up once qualified. He's not as knowledgeable - essentially he does everything that I could do myself if I had the time whereas our old gardener worked magic.

Just resurrected a zombie thread without realising - sorry all!

I'm in Devon (not the coast) and pay £30 for mowing the grass (large garden for a semi detached cottage) every couple of weeks.

Other garden jobs are very ad hoc - when he has time and we can afford it - but it works out about £180 a day.
