Anyone worked for someone famous?

I’m working in a company for an influencer/z list celeb. She’s well known in a certain group of people and hangs around with some pretty famous faces. She has her own fashion company.

I don’t report into her, but work closely with her and she is an utter bitch. The way she comes across on social media is so…different. Her intern films her for content daily and she puts on such a smiley show. When the camera is off, she’s rude, demanding, bitches about everyone in the team, including members of the team that go above and beyond to make her business a success and make her happy…I could go on.

she contradicts herself constantly, making me feel like I’m going mad. I know if I died tmrw she wouldn’t care. She cares only about herself and her success. She’s not even nice about her husband, who is such a lovely guy.

I want to get out this company asap. It’s just difficult to know where to go and what to do next so in the meantime…has anyone else experienced similar?

I have lost all respect for this woman. She is awful and everyone that works for her knows it.

Worked in that ‘celeb’ world for over a decade.
The ones at the top were actually the loveliest. The ones at the bottom were truly, truly, truly hideous.
Worked for one famous name directly - awful. Only ever did it once, would never do it again.
Left because the person kept forgetting to
pay me.
Seeing behind the curtain of their life was very interesting. Lax in terms of security, think Wagatha Christie stuff, could have made a fortune, no NDA.
However, as awful as they were it was a position of trust.
I can tell you this - I would never want to be famous. Their levels of paranoia, vanity, wanting to be relevant, be seen with certain people in certain places. What happens when their profile falls off. Dealing with their latest tiffs, relationships, drinking. I very much doubt they could have told you one thing about me, because they never asked despite telling me of their adoration. But they loved everyone, you take it with a pinch of salt.
I still see the person on Instagram and it’s interesting to see their love-ins with friends, when they have expressed the very opposite to me.
It is a bitchy, nasty, exhausting way to live and I would hate it. The absolute fear of a drop in fame/status is 24/7.

I once met Harry Redknap, walking his dog. Very friendly, down to earth chap.

That wasn't his dog, that was his accountant.

I've met Davina McCall through work and she was nice, and not shouty!

Also have regular dealings with one of the interviewers on The Apprentice, they come across as really nice, completely the opposite of their tv persona.

Can confirm Davina is truly, truly lovely.
Works very hard, very warm, no diva strops.

I know someone who worked with James Corden before he hit the big time and apparently he was awful, rude and arrogant even then.

Bob Geldof lives near family and they interact with him regularly. Serving him in the shop etc. Every story I hear he sounds rude, grumpy and tight. Barking at people to 'move out the way' instead of saying excuse me, and trying to get lower prices on already cheap items (it's a charity shop!!)

brunettemic · 24/04/2025 14:22

Not worked for but my DS and a couple of friends have met 3 premier league footballers at a barbers they walk past on the way home. All 3 were apparently really nice, took selfies with them, asked if the boys played, how their season was etc. One of them even waited a few minutes whilst one of the boys ran home to get his shirt to sign.

Themaghag · 24/04/2025 14:24

My friend works as a film extra and has been in a lot of high profile TV and feature films - The Crown and the Mission Impossibles for example. She was an extra on 'Judy' which starred Renée Zellweger and Michael Gambon. She couldn't say enough nice things about Renée Zellweger - she was absolutely lovely to everyone and insisted on staying at the same hotel - a Holiday Inn - as everyone else and just mucked with everything and everyone. She said Michael Gambon was also very sweet but kept on forgetting his lines and asking her what was happening next!

Bob geldof is hardly going to be in a great mood when his ex wife, the mother of his children died a tragic death, and then his daughter Pixie geldof also died tragically. Is he?

Of course he's going to be grumpy.

I remember he said once that sometimes when he's out shopping, the grief can hit him so bad, that he runs out to have a cry.

meisafairy · 24/04/2025 14:28

Is the op hinting at Paige Louise?

My friend is also an extra! Anyone can do it, you sign up to an extra agency.

I'd like to do it, but I don't have the time.

Apreslapluielesoleil · 24/04/2025 14:30

Old boyfriend worked as film crew, said Zoe Wanamaker is the loveliest lady, always polite and respectful to everyone. I knew Felicity Montagu as a school mum, again lovely and quite shy and private. And her kids were very well mannered!

DemelzaandRoss · 24/04/2025 14:32

Another Harry Rednapp observation.
Every Friday night he used to frequent the same restaurant close to where we live.
Had a little area set up for him & Sandra.
Whenever we saw him he was always extremely friendly & polite to anyone who popped over to chat with him.

Lilactimes · 24/04/2025 14:33

Yes - I have.
some people who are famous are really tricky or surround themselves with really tricky people so they can look good and get others to do their dirty work.

However, there are some real gems out there too and also there are tricky people in the world of work who aren’t famous. Often it’s just the pressure of work.
A sense of perspective and developing a thick skin are also important parts of working.
Id just keep looking whilst you’re working in your current job.

Good luck x

Kellybonita · 24/04/2025 14:34

I know someone that worked with Matt Lucas.

Apparantly matt lucas told my friend : that Graham Norton can be an asshole!

Odiebay · 24/04/2025 14:34

I live by rowan atkinson. Such a recluse. Always nice enough but would rather not be talked too!

Jeremey clarkson .. said to me "I assume you want my autograph" and got offended when I asked who he was 😂

Ant and Dec... Dec was lovely but seemed to be over nice to make up for how rude ant was!

Cat deely.. very stressed and shouting all the time

Alan Carr.. lovely lovely lovely. Could talk to him all day!

Graham Norton. Quieter than I thought he would be but very warm and sweet!

Taylor swift, super nice. I was expecting the worst but she talked to me for at least 15 minutes between shoots. She kept coming back saying " I was just thinking about what you said" and carried on the conversation. She gives you a lot of attention and looks you right in the eye when talking so made me feel a little on edge 😂. She seems incredibly intelligent as does her publicist. Can't remember her name but she was fab!

Miley Cyrus - very nice but strictly professional. Sensational voice live.

Ariana I met recently and honestly she just seemed sad. Couldn't relate to her at all and was nice enough but felt very fake/acted.

Little mix - perrie was really loud and nice, jade did the majority of the talking but seemed the most grounded, Leighanne was sweet and shy but then suddenly seemed loud and had big ideas 😂

Anna kendrick- nice and polite. Didn't talk much but seems well liked

Lazlothevampire · 24/04/2025 14:36

I used to work at recording studios, From leaving school in mid 90s for over a decade, I met everyone at work, events and parties. Few that stand out:

Liam Gallagher is one of the nicest, kindest, most respectful people I’ve ever met, and nothing like his public persona (probs different story if you were in a relationship with him though!) Really talented, rarely seen anyone just nail a song first time. Very generous and speaks to eveyone. And his then partner Nicole Appleton - I don’t think you’d meet a more lovely woman. She’s just so warm and nice and lights up a room.

Noel was okay - just very professional and into his work.

Blur were fucking horrors. Graham was okay, but the rest of them were so up themselves. Damon would look at everyone like they were shit on his shoe.

Elvis Costello deserves nothing but great things. Lovely, lovely man.

Robbie Williams, really funny but quite shy and obviously quite anxious and depressed. Nice guy though.

Geri Halliwell thought she was the Queen.

Hearsay - fuck me. They thought they were royalty
🤣

With only a few exceptions, it was always the management who were the biggest pricks.

Most of the smaller bands were just dicks. The more famous, and the more normal
and working class they were before fame, the nicer they were to everyone.

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 24/04/2025 14:37

@Lazlothevampire I loved reading that!

Notdoingtoobadfor52 · 24/04/2025 14:38

I used to do private flying - came across the odd diva but majority were really pleasant. The only thing I found odd was that a lot of them don’t come across as very bright - I always presumed it was because they had an entourage running round after them and so didn’t really have to think for themselves.

thiswilloutme · 24/04/2025 14:44

For about 5yrs I did backstage crew for an annual charity event, all volunteers, some "biggish" TV names would come and do the live auction, give a talk / do a Q&A etc etc. I did find that the bigger "stars" were often more relaxed and much nicer to the crew than some of the minor celebs. Having said that, there were a few of the regular "minors" that supported the charity every year and worked as hard as we did to bring in the cash for it. I've kept in touch with them, via FB, they never "made it big" but are just jobbing actors and lovely people.

My friend's DD did stage crew for big music events and met some real arsehole musicians - but her all time favourite person in that world was Neil Diamond. She said he was just lovely, kind and generous to everyone - his band, the stage crew and everyone he met just adored him.

LoyalMember · 24/04/2025 14:44

My neighbour's son from years ago interviewed Billy Connolly a few times, and said he was a top man. Funny, kind, and down to Earth. Just like you'd like to imagine The Big Yin was like. Just a welder from Glasgow.

Poonu · 24/04/2025 14:45

AcrossthePond55 · 24/04/2025 14:12

My son works in the (US) entertainment industry in a 'professional capacity' and has frequent contacts with 'The Famous', from A to Z list. I'm not naming names because he constantly reminds me that the stuff he tells me is 'not for public consumption, Mum, not even anonymously'.

But I will say that I've been repeatedly shocked that some of the people I thought would be so lovely are horrible and some of the people I thought would be horrible are so lovely. And that it's pretty amazing the lengths some will go to stroke their own egos. I wouldn't work in that field for a mint.

I find responses like this pointless.

oh the irony.....

Kitchensnails · 24/04/2025 14:46

My general rule of thumb was that the more famous/known they were the less of an arsehole they were. It was the Z list/wannabe types that were the worse to deal with.

I worked in hospitality in London when I was at uni and also found this to be the case!

FiercelyFree · 24/04/2025 10:58

I used to work in a hotel in guest relations, so I often was allocated to assist any famous guests during their stay.
Shirley Bassey was amazing - warm, polite and funny. She sang to me in the lift, a moment I will never forget!
Status Quo - one was funny and charming the other was rude and arrogant.
The Human League - all friendly and down to earth.
Valentino Rossi - cheeky, really funny.
Wet Wet Wet - very down to earth apart from Marty Pello who refused to stay on the same floor as his band mates and made ridiculous demands night and day.
Mick Jagger - lovely man who wanted Welsh Rarebit making all the time.
Robson Green - very shy! Polite and friendly but didn't enjoy the attention at all. Very low maintenance.

Oh my god you met Vale??? I'm so happy to hear he's nice, he always comes across like that #46

PeggyMitchellsCameo · 24/04/2025 14:50

@Scorchio84 who is Vale and what is #46?
