Stressed about the weather!

Is the BBC weather forecast for Saturday - currently predicting rain - likely to be accurate at this stage (Wednesday night)? I’ve a birthday garden party and barbecue planned and the number of adults and kids I’ve invited won’t fit in my home without us being uncomfortably squashed.

Just getting my crystal ball....🔮

Lol - I know it’s a silly question. But I’m starting to worry!

Surely a bonkers time of year to have planned a garden party with no indoor back up option.

I know. I decided to take a risk and it didn’t pay off!

Edited to add that annoyingly Sunday is looking good - but I’m not able to switch dates due to other commitments.

Next week is also looking stunning!

a wing and a prayer, all the best

Keroppi · 23/04/2025 23:16

Lol time to post on WhatsApp and Facebook asking to potentially borrow a marquee/large parasol thing or host at someone else's house 😅

So you reckon it’s likely to be accurate by this point? 😭

Bide your time.

Get a sort of contingency in place, eg small gazebo. But it's not quite close enough to be sure. Check met check for the best actual rain prediction. BBC and xc can be too heavy handed.

Theunamedcat · 23/04/2025 23:22

Fairly accurate get a marquee or something you still have time! It happened to my mom one year but my family are crazy and just grabbed umbrellas and stayed out there

NC4this222 · 23/04/2025 23:26

XC is actually looking okay! (Just cloud). BBC is saying rain with sun (40% chance).

OP posts:
Hercisback1 · 23/04/2025 23:40

Xc are good for wind, 40% rains OK.

What's met check saying ?

If tomorrow evening was predicting down pours I'd have a plan B. Too close to say now.

Make sure people know they'll be outside so they can dress appropriately.

NC4this222 · 23/04/2025 23:44

Met check has sun and cloud symbol, but 60% chance of rain!

Omg are you me ? I’ve a kids bday party planned in my garden (complete with bouncy castle) for Saturday. The weather was looking fab a couple of days ago… but now (where I am - east of Scotland) it’s looking very showery. Trying to decide whether to book village hall v last min or wait it out and hope things swing back in my favour !

Hoping for the best for both of us! If it can change that quickly from good to bad then hopefully it can swing back the other way just as quick 😁

Yup !! Tmrw afternoon / Friday should be a more reliable forecast. Met check says 48% chance rain where I am during party hours a… but there’s a picture of a sunshine. Who know 🙈

I think I’m particularly daft given that I live in Scotland. My dd was desperate for a bouncy castle garden party so decided to risk it 😬

Hercisback1 · 23/04/2025 23:52

Pics on met check tell the real truth. 🤞 For you, let us know how it goes!

PickAChew · 23/04/2025 23:54

You planned a barbecue in April? Are you mad?

tiflin · 23/04/2025 23:59

In Hertford, Hereford and Hampshire, hurricanes hardly ever happen.

Sorry I couldn’t resist when you mentioned Hertfordshire and weather! Showing my age..

kitchenwwyd · 24/04/2025 00:02

A few Saturdays ago we had a garden thing planned and it said rain 80%.. but by the time the day came it said 60% and all the showers were in the night time rather than the day! So garden was totally useable.. wasn’t boiling but there were sunny intervals even though it was a cloud symbol! 🤞

AliBaliBee1234 · 24/04/2025 00:04

My birthday is this weekend and the weather is constantly flipping between rain and sun! Last changed this evening so who knows

NC4this222 · 24/04/2025 08:41

As usual on the BBC website the pictures don’t match the words below. It says 60% chance of rain all afternoon in the pics but in the description it sounds better:

Saturday will see cloudy skies and a chance of patchy drizzle in the morning. Turning largely dry but staying cloudy in the afternoon.

Even they don’t have a clue do they?! 😄

All last week the weather was saying Monday would be nice and Tuesday raining. It was actually the opposite so it does change. Good luck. I think I would also try to source a marquee.

I always find the BBC weather to be the most accurate.
