If you shower once a day, when do you shower?

When you get up, or just before bed?

I think I'd have to do morning, as I get all sweaty and gross overnight and couldn't face the day like that.

But then, I suppose people wouldn't like the idea of going to bed unwashed from the day?

There always seems to me to be a higher % of people on MN that are mega clean freaks than I think I know in real life. It baffles me. Maybe MN has a high proportion of people that work in farming? as gardeners? builders? plumbers? some other sweaty/dirty job? I genuinely dont get it.
I have a shower/hairwash 3-4 times a week which is plenty often enough.

Agreed. It’s one of those issues where Mumsnet is way out of step with the general population.

Well, imagine it... Which would you pick?

Sometimes I wake up and think "I'd love a shower right now!". Then I go about my day and decide I'd like a second shower in the evening.

I'm known as Polly2showers around these parts.

I always do morning. Twice daily only during a heatwave.

OH heatwave. I've had a tepid shower, put on a nightie over wet skin lay on the bed and quietly evaporated which is cooling. Otherwise I can't sleep.

I'm a morning showerer. Monday to Friday I work from home. I get up 6.00ish, make a coffee pot, log on to my laptop to read news, check social media, do personal admin and my daily brain puzzles. Then around 7.15 I shower and dress before starting work at 8.00. Even on days when I don't have any scheduled Teams meetings, there can be many spontaneous on-screen catchups with colleagues and it is important to me I look groomed - smartly dressed, made-up with hair done.
On weekends I still rise early, unlike my partner who is a night owl and retired so often stays in bed until 10ish. Depending on what is happening on a weekend day, I often don't shower until lunchtime or later, but always before leaving the house.
Back in the day I used to love languishing in a bath but I'm 69 now and can't be faffed with that. If I'm really honest, I can't be faffed with the risk of getting in and possibly not being able to get out!

Always in the evening, so all clean before bed.

Same. But I often have an additional shower in the day if I feel gross. But there's no better feeling than going to bed all clean. I don't understand people that can go to bed with all the grime and sweat of the day. Or worse yet: if they have used public restrooms.

Shower in the morning and a bath at night for me or I don’t feel right … I definitely have ocd of some sort tho xx

mindingmyown37 · 23/04/2025 22:36

Morning, I sweat a lot at night and can’t function for work if I’m dirty. Have showered in the morning now for about 20 years.

QueefQueen80s · 23/04/2025 22:37

Before bed, love washing the day off and getting in all clean. I don’t sweat over night so smell nice for the next day, hair has dried over night too

I generally shower in the evening, particularly on working days where all effort has to be put into getting the kids out the door and looking mildly business presentable myself! I also like to wash away the day at the end of the evening and go to bed feeling clean.

Best feeling = shower, shaved legs, clean crisp sheets. Bliss!!!

menopausalfart · 23/04/2025 22:41

@Ineedascooter Sleep related for me. I have a bath before bed and it helps me sleep.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 23/04/2025 22:43

Before bed as toddler is asleep them so I can do in peace and it makes the sheets stay fresh longer

Kbroughton · 23/04/2025 22:45

Showers wake me up so would never shower at night unless I was going out or I had being doing something (like hiking or sunbathing) . I sometimes bath before bed. Morning shower for me.

Longma · 23/04/2025 22:45

In a morning, after getting up.

I don’t shower before bed unless it’s a really warm day and I’ve been sweaty, or I have been exercising or got particularly dirty/messy for some reason.

motherhen27 · 23/04/2025 22:48

Morning here. Can’t go to work feeling like I’m still covered in bed sweat. My hair also goes flat and greasy once it’s been slept on.
At the weekend my dc usually have to be out for sports quickly so I’ll just have a quick wash and dry shampoo my hair on those days but by the time we get back I’m well ready for a nice soak.

PollyCreo · 23/04/2025 22:51

Do we have a shower perv in our midst?

imisscashmere · 23/04/2025 22:58

Bugahug · 23/04/2025 20:44

I have a shower in the evenings these days as kids get up super early so dont get a minute to shower once they are up. I used to be a morning showerer and hopefully will get back to that one day. But for now needs must

That was me. Word of encouragement - I’m back to mornings now :)

I still add in the odd evening shower as now I know how lovely and relaxing it is.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 23/04/2025 23:05

Before bed. My balance is off, and more pain when I get up in the morning.
I don’t work, so my time is my own

savuni27 · 23/04/2025 23:15

Usually evening if I’m WFH, if I’m in the office then morning and evening.

WhenICalledYouLastNightFromTesco · 23/04/2025 23:49

Morning when working, and the only time I shower twice a day is if I've been wearing sun cream in summer.

When I'm not at work, I tend to shower in the evening when I'm likely to be socialising and if I'm not leaving the house at all on a day off, I might even skip a shower 🤫.

User1786 · 24/04/2025 00:01

Before bed. Could not go to bed dirty!

EBearhug · 24/04/2025 00:11

Night. Wash the day away and also wash any pollen off.

Flytrap01 · 24/04/2025 00:12

at night / evening

DirtyBird · 24/04/2025 02:16

when I was a minor in the evenings. But once I left home it’s morning and evening

Zanatdy · 24/04/2025 06:14

Mainly at night, as have a lot to do before work. I never sweat much, so certainly don’t stink after sleeping. Sometimes i’ll have a shower before work, but I like to let my hair dry naturally before I straighten, so works better in evening. I never have a shower and don’t wash my hair.
