If you shower once a day, when do you shower?

When you get up, or just before bed?

I think I'd have to do morning, as I get all sweaty and gross overnight and couldn't face the day like that.

But then, I suppose people wouldn't like the idea of going to bed unwashed from the day?

On work days, morning. On a non working day often lunchtime or I might have a bath in the afternoon if I don’t have plans to go out.

evtheria · 23/04/2025 21:01

Before bed: it’s part of my ‘wind down’ routine and I feel absolutely gross and grumpy in the morning if I don’t.

Songbird54321 · 23/04/2025 21:06

Generally evenings, especially if I’m washing my hair. I don’t have time to faff on drying it on a morning.
I also like to shower and moisturise before bed as it’s relaxing.
I will sometimes hop in on a morning if it’s been hot overnight but would likely go in in the evening as well.

Twice a day morning and night.

That's nice... but if you only could shower once, which would you choose.

Evening. I'm not sweaty at night and wear clean pyjamas anyway.

VivIsBlonde · 23/04/2025 21:09

Strip wash in the morning and a shower just before bed

TheCurious0range · 23/04/2025 21:10

It depends
My preference is when I get up, but if I have a particularly early start and want to blow dry/straighten my hair I would shower before bed and do those things then, then have a wash in the morning and touch up my hair. Having said that even in those circumstances I'd usually put my hair up and just have a very quick shower without getting my hair wet.
Sometimes I have two showers, eg I get up shower and dress, but then spend the day gardening, I couldn't go to bed sweaty and with compost under my nails

Before bed. I don’t tend to sweat overnight, but I feel gross at the end of the day.

YourWinter · 23/04/2025 21:13

I shower after I’ve eaten, 6-7pm, and settle on the sofa in pyjamas while my hair dries. In winter, the house is warmer then than in the morning.

Boil kettle/unload dishwasher/make brew.

Pour tea.

Morning and after exercise but if I could only choose one, after exercise… however I’m required to shower before entering the pool if I’m swimming instead of gym… does that exempt me from just one a day on swim days? 😉

SpottedDonkey · 23/04/2025 21:17

First thing. I am really not a morning person. At all. Never have been, never will be. I need a morning shower to wake me up & get me functioning to face the day. If I didn’t have one, I would still be a zombie until at least 10 am.

WordleAway · 23/04/2025 21:21

Late afternoon before I cook/eat our evening meal. I spend a lot of my afternoons with my horse (I’m retired) so don’t want to spend the evening in horsey gear or (worse!) smelling like a muckheap.

lunaemma · 23/04/2025 21:22

Night because I exercise in the evening

housemaus · 23/04/2025 21:23

Before bed. If I'm going out for an event or something at the weekend I'll maybe shower before, but Monday-Friday it's a bath before bed every night (or shower in the summer - to be fair in summer I will also shower in the morning if it's hot).

Moier · 23/04/2025 21:23

Morning. Just refeshes me and makes me feel cleaner before getting dressed.
When I'm abroad it's morning and night.. to wash away suncream etc from the day.

GameOfJones · 23/04/2025 21:25

Evening.

I finish work, have a shower or a bath and get straight into my pyjamas. I just feel better getting into bed knowing I'm really clean. And it's one less thing to do in the morning.... my hair takes an age to dry.

I never get sweaty at night though and always have clean pyjamas on so I don't feel the need to shower in the morning. I'm really not looking forward to the menopause if it means I get really sweaty in bed and have to start washing my hair in the mornings!

Gettingbysomehow · 23/04/2025 21:25

I work in healthcare so I shower before and after work.

Auburngal · 23/04/2025 21:26

Usually first thing. But when I go on a group pick with the litter wombles, afterwards. As covered with mud, muck and probably drivers’ tizer (bottles of lorry drivers’ piss which have leaked over us)

justasking111 · 23/04/2025 21:27

These days, it's up do exercises and shower to ease my back issues. When the children were at school it was in the evening because we had to leave the house early for school and work .

Pre children I really enjoyed a soak in the bath. Ah those were the days.

Endofyear · 23/04/2025 21:30

I shower in the morning, I like a bath before bed!

I shower at night because I like to get into bed feeling all clean and I generally go for a run before dinner. If I'm going to an event in the evening or out for dinner, usually right before that.

Just to say, I've survived menopause without being sweaty at night. To be fair aircon in the summer and HRT probably help. I sleep in shorts and a camisole year round, but always have, and don't seem to be a hugely sweaty person. So there's hope for you!

Ineedascooter · 23/04/2025 21:30

There always seems to me to be a higher % of people on MN that are mega clean freaks than I think I know in real life. It baffles me. Maybe MN has a high proportion of people that work in farming? as gardeners? builders? plumbers? some other sweaty/dirty job? I genuinely dont get it.
I have a shower/hairwash 3-4 times a week which is plenty often enough.

KaToby · 23/04/2025 21:31

About 3pm, after gym/housework on a non work day.
Mornings if I have work
