What is the quickest you’ve lost something?

Picked DS3 up a pair of goggles for his holiday in August today. Not expensive but not throw away money either. For some reason rather than putting them away with his other holiday bits I put them on him and sent him into the kitchen to show his dad. Somehow between the bottom of the stairs and the kitchen he’s managed to put the goggles down and I can’t find them any where. Please make feel better about this complete waste of money by letting me know the quickest you’ve had something misplaced.

On my honeymoon, bought some lovely sunglasses from Duty Free in the morning... lost them to a big wave in sea in the afternoon. Still think about them!

Bought earrings at the airport (around £50). Went to put them in my ears at the gate whilst waiting to board, dropped one, never to be found again

Went shopping. Sat in a cafe for a drink, put bags down. Got up, left. Managed to lose one of the bags, so never even got the item home. I think it was a t shirt. Years ago now

My wedding ring... In a snow fight 2 weeks after we were married.

Summer job, worked an 8 hour shift, was given my pay in an envelope, walked half a mile home, lost it on the way.

That was in 2003 and I'm still sad about it.

Brand new school jumper on its first wear, somehow I didn't clock that I hadn't labelled it. Also first warm day of the year, so DD took it off and promptly lost it. It's not the biggest financial loss, but I feel like such an eejit as it was so preventable!

Snap! Except I lent them to my DH on the first day (Rayban Wayfarers so unisex) and he left them by the pool 😡. Didn’t get me a replacement either - I’m still salty 15 years later…

Same as the ones I bought! I would be salty too!

On a trip to Paris I bought some Toulouse-Lautrec coasters from a museum or somewhere, then went to a pavement café, and after a quick drink left them behind. About 45 minutes?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 23/04/2025 20:29

Handmade silver earrings - one fell out at first wear. Contacted the maker who sent me a replacement. Fell out at first wear.

Wrote off a car 26 hours after getting it.

A phone. I’d had mine stolen. Waited about 6 weeks to get a new one. It too was stolen from my bag later that same day. I went traveling a few weeks later and didn’t bother to replace it until I got back, I obviously wasn’t to be trusted with one!

A loaf of bread
I was a single parent, counting every single penny and had scraped together the money to buy a loaf (id even dug around the sofa for loose change)
Somewhere between the sainsburys local and my house,I lost it
How the hell you lose a loaf of cheap white bread,I do not know but I managed it

Few years ago £300 of Xmas shopping left it in Argos whilst waiting to collect something got that and left other bags.
Went in the next day and was so lucky someone handed them in.

SomethingAboutNothing · 23/04/2025 22:31

DH bought DS a new coat for our holiday, the day before we left. It got left in the taxi from the airport, never to be seen again. Had to buy a replacement when the rain came 2 days later.

New phone arrived. Went to the garden, put it in my pocket, I forgot there was rocks in my pocket from the garden. Cracked screen

Spent ages researching the perfect yoga bolster (I know) then spent a lot of money for me on it, took it to class, it was absolutely as fabulous as I expected, somehow walked out without it and never saw it again, so was used for 45 minutes, I bloody loved that thing! 😭

That must have been a sore one to take.

Well I seem to always loose my cinema ticket between buying it and entering the cinema (not lost lost but checking all pockets lost)

if I find money I give it to charity. Makes me feel better about money I have dropped.

40£ worth off superdrug stuff. Left it on the coach I got everyday. Knew everyone on the coach but noone saw it.

Went to Vegas many years ago. Not really to gamble but thought we’d put $100 each aside to have a bit of fun. Walked outside the hotel and got grabbed by someone with some sort of spinning wheel of fortune outside and we were so skilfully relieved of that $200 in about 2 minutes flat!
