Oh god, tummy bug.....

A member of my boyfriends family became ill last week with a tummy bug. I think on Thursday.

It was his birthday over the weekend and now there are other members of the family becoming ill. I presume with the same tummy bug.

I met the family over the weekend and I met my boyfriend.

Now I am petrified that I was exposed to this. I don't tolerate sickness very well and I have an underlying condition as well.

I don't know what it is. If it's a tummy bug or norovirus. Looks to be a lot like norovirus but I don't know.

Has anyone been exposed and came away without being sick?

Looks to be about 3-4 days incubation to symptoms.

If I wasn't stuck in work for the day, I would drink laxatives so that I can start gaming some control over this before it kicks in.

We met in a restaurant if that is any more information to help.

My belly is feeling a little tender and I am petrified that this is the start of a bug.

Stress and worry can give me stomach pain so how you’re feeling now may not be a bug. Hopefully you won’t get it.

Surely after 72 hours plus you would be past the danger zone by now?

I am furious with them. There was a few of them either side of sickness and they never allowed much time after illness to start mixing with people again.

I remember getting sick a few years ago with what I think was norovirus. I had nausea on a Thursday evening, then bouts of vomiting and diarrhea until Friday morning and I stayed in my room until Saturday and I never passed it onto my family.

I am so sick of people being selfish and not really taking any reasonable precautions with sickness.

Noro incubation is more like 24h I believe.

NextDoorToAlice · 23/04/2025 20:13

Yes noro moves quick.

I wonder if this is a different tummy bug. It must be. Incubation with this one is 3-4 days it appears.

I have gut issues IBS and another gut condition and stress does aggregate it so I don't know if it's my usual gut issues or if there's something brewing.

I do t feel feverish so I suppose that's a good sign right now. I always get fevers with everything.

Noro is up to 48 hrs incubation but you’re past that. I think you’ll probably be fine.

GingerPaste · 23/04/2025 20:15

It usually hits me about 48 hours later - so if I make it to 3 days I assume I’ve gotten away with it!!

NextDoorToAlice · 23/04/2025 20:20

I do remember when I had norovirus a few years ago. Wednesday morning was likely my exposure. 5pm Thursday - nausea

Its 48 hours now for me. I will likely no more later tonight and over night.

Another thing I always got before having a stomach bug - for the preceding 2 days, I wouldn’t go to the toilet much at all (body presumably keeping it all in for a big infectious explosion in 2 days’ time)!

The first time I had the stomach bug I was very ill and it affected my digestive system for months/a couple of years… It was from another entitled, thoughtless person who couldn’t care less about anyone else’s health.

I'm so sorry to read about your experience.

I wish more people could understand the seriousness of viruses and if ill, just exercise some distancing away from other people until better.

I am furious about the this family. Meeting up for a party knowing that there were a few people either side of sickness.

It's so selfishness and careless.

Yeah, I picked it up at the childminder’s. Another woman brought her ill child (even though the childminder told her not to). He threw up as soon as he arrived and then we all got it a few days later. It was pretty terrible too and affected me badly psychologically as well as physically. I still hate that woman even though it was a long time ago 😂 🤢

NextDoorToAlice · 24/04/2025 17:40

Three and half days after meeting with the family and I feel well, thank goodness. I presume I am out of the woods now from developing any sickness.

I don't know how I escaped it.
