Does anyone here regularly go to hairdressers for a wash and blowdry or other treatment?

I go to my hairdresser for trims so they are about once every 4 months. I also go to him for highlights. I am new to hilights since last year and so far it's been once every 6 months.

I would love to go more often. But I don't know for what.

During my last colour, my hairdresser gave me a complimentary treatment and beautiful head massage. Basically I would love to contact him and see if he offers that treatment as a standalone service away from colours and I am tempted to get a wash and blowdry done more often. Maybe once a month if I can. I usually do my own washing of my hair at home.

I would love to go to my hairdresser more often.

I have thick curly hair and go every six weeks for a trim and highlights.

Yes go every week for blow dry -makes me happy /costs less than four glasses of wine in the pub.

You could get a deep conditioning treatment in between, is that what they offered you? My hairdresser often does a complimentary conditioning treatment when I get highlights - head massage I always get as standard!! You could get a toner in between highlights if your highlights look a bit brassy, or you want to blend in your roots a bit more.

My nana always used to go for a weekly wash and blow dry - it’s the only time they washed their hair, they never did it themselves!

I was given a complimentary scalp treatment that had a probiotic.

A friends mum used to go every week to have her hair washed and blow dried and she never washed her own hair in the interim

I promised myself last year I would become one of those women who went every week for a wash and 'set'. It helped that our local hairdrssers have trainees who will do it for a tenner. But I only went twice (each time before a lunch out or a book club thing) to try and titivate myself a bit.

You have reminded me OP, thank you! I'll book another one- even once a month would be a nice treat and as a pp said it's cheaper than wine in the pub (which I DO do every week).

I don't understand how it works going once a week. Do hairdressers magically make hair last a week between washes?

I imagine these ladies must have that kind of short hair which once styled just stays like that and also is not oily either. I guess if it is, maybe they just massage a little dry shampoo in between. Sounds heavenly though to be never have to wash your hair and be able to eek out a wash and blow dry always!

My hairdresser and the online marketing stuff he does on his socials, he only really shows colour work. Does that mean he only works with colour services or does he take other work too? Any hair dressers here? He rents a chair if that makes any difference so self employed.

My auntie has her hair washed and blow dried every week, and doesn’t wash it in between. It isn’t short, but she’s mixed race, and her hairs thick and very dry. It’s not really curly, just wavy, and always looks nice. No idea how she last a week between washes, but she does. She’s 80 though, perhaps it’s different when you’re older.

I have my hair cut and coloured every 6 weeks religiously. It starts as a full head of highlights (not cheap) then next appointment just roots, then roots plus halo back to roots and roots and halo again until we agree I need the full head again. My hair naturally is now about 75% grey and I have it bleached blonde which was my natural colour.

As part of the full head of highlights I get a lovely head massage, this is included in the price but you can pay separately for the massage. If I am going to a party or event I will pay to have my hair washed, blown dry and usually curled at the bottom too. Although I can do this at home it never looks as good as when my hairdresser does it. She also does wedding hair too. She is very talented.

Him renting a chair has no bearing on what he offers so just message him and ask about the treatments he offers specifically with a massage.

Weekly blow dry. Absolute genius.

I never have to wash my hair, it always looks good, even if I catch sight of myself unexpectedly. Colour every month, a lovely mix of blond and red. Shortish chin length bob. It’s taken a good few years to find the perfect cut but this really is it.

oncewhen I wasn’t well my hair went a fortnight, still not greasy but nowhere as much volume in the second week.

I recommend it as a lifestyle choice.

sciaticafanatica · 23/04/2025 21:00

The fact he rents a chair is irrelevant…I would speak to him about treatments or services on a regular basis and see what he recommends

In my 60s. Have a blow dry every Friday and don't wash my hair in-between. My hair is a thick bob and it stays in shape perfectly. A few times l have been on my way to the hairdresser, met a friend and they said..oh you just got your hair done!! I play golf at least twice a week but it stays in place. Get it coloured every 5 weeks and cut every 10. It means l always feel put together. I like to dress well but not in expensive clothes. Spending money on my hair is my main luxury and l highly recommend it.

I normally wash my hair every two days - can get 3 or 4 from a salon blow dry, especially with shampoo. I would have a twice weekly wash and blow dry if I won the lottery.

OP, I’m sure your stylist will do a wash and blow dry or, if not, recommend someone else who can. I normally go for a wash and blow dry before booking a new stylist to cut my hair.
