I LOVE socks.
Lots of people moan about receiving socks for Christmas etc but everyone knows they can buy me all the socks!
I have just put on a brand new pair and they're so squishy, and comfy, and new...

What makes you happy?

A nice Tea in thermos cup at the park.

I have a small child, so spend a lot of time sitting or standing around parks. Bought a nice small Stanley thermos cup. Make a loose leaf Darjeeling and take kindle and it’s actually fairly relaxing
( when said child isn’t stuck and needs help)

Dunking a digestive in a cup of coffee.

Lying on my bed reading a good book.

Also love a nice handcream, very happy to receive one as a gift ditto shower gels/soaps

Not rushing and enjoying the process.

I’m working fewer hours at the moment and doing everything else at my own pace. I started dinner early yesterday, took my time and enjoyed the process. I realise that I spent years of my life getting things done at breakneck speed. Work on the other hand…

My first coffee, sipped slowly contemplating my day ahead
Feeling the sun on the top of my head.
The devoted gaze of my Westie. He makes my heart flip.
Toneys chocoloney, toffee and biscuit watching Corrie or Emmerdale.
cleansing and moisturising my face at night( Cetaphil suits my skin)
A shower using my favourite Shea butter cream( Superdrug is cheap and surprisingly good
My favourite bright Mac lipstick and a spray of my favourite perfume sets me up for the day.
I could go on..
Appreciating the simple things is the key to my contentment.

Watching a blue tit pulling away at the tree fern to get nesting material. Gladdened my morning.

First cup of tea of the day, especially on a Saturday morning in one of my weekend mugs.

What I'm doing now. Tea and toast in bed with the electric blanket at low.

Love it.

sound of rain (pattering on windows, or hissing on the roads as cars drive past, or drumming on corrugated tin roofs…)

brand new pens

walking past a bush of Daphne, heaven

floating in a swimming pool and feeling all your hair suspended off your scalp, swishing it about slowly

walking into a bookshop, especially one you’ve not been before

when everyone is asleep on the flight, the lights are low, and I can see the faintest shadows of ships below on the sea, or the scattered twinkles of a town. I will accept awful jet lag to not miss this “alone” time.

making people (especially my family, like my mum/dad or my BIL) laugh aloud

When I pick my cat up, and he cuddles into my neck. My MIL used to say our previous cat (who we had to have pts early last year) always smelled like me, and when we adopted this boy I wasn’t sure we’d ever get to the stage he did the same. With a lot of time and patience now he is truly “our cat” and has a faint waft of Chanel 19.

Also days like today. I don’t work Wednesday, I have the house to myself and am currently lying in bed with a cup of tea. Washing on the line, going to make a really nice dinner for later, paint my nails, have a bath - a day for me with no interruptions (although might do a bit of work this afternoon).

I love soft new socks too, preferably bamboo, but nobody ever gives me any!
Son in law once told me he’d really like new socks for his birthday - he never thinks or remembers to buy any.

Cats. Footmasks. Hair masks. Whipped feta with roasted carrots. Columbian coffee. DIY. Painting. Gardening. The White Company cashmere socks.

Love sitting on a bench in the sun with a cup of tea, reading.

Love watching a film with my daughter.

Love cuddling up with my partner in bed.

Scented wax melts
A nice cosy blanket on the sofa
My dog asking for a cuddle
My rescue cat choosing to sit on my lap after six years of being too scared
Sunrises and sunsets
Being on the beach or by the sea in general

I love socks for a present too! I love all the little things people hate for presents - socks, smellies, candles, mugs.

The times I have to be cool mum - chase her round randomly pretending the floor is lava etc
Keeping her up a bit later - still early really but she thinks she's getting something special and snugs into me.
A walk for a decent coffee at lunch once or twice a month.
