I use Vinted to sell things every now and again but I've never bought anything from there. Recently I sold a rug on there for £50 and after I had posted it the buyer got in touch to ask to cancel it as the address they input was wrong. As a seller, once something is posted you can't really cancel it and I can only hope that the rug is returned to me if it is misdelivered.

I just had a notification to say that it has been delivered and I will receive payment in two days unless the buyer raises an issue.

I don't want the buyer to be out of pocket and I care about being a good seller and I feel happy I have people sharing their positive experiences in their reviews. But equally I don't want to lose an item that is also quite valuable price wise.
Does anyone know what i can do?
My DH is sceptical and asked if it was just the person changing their mind as surely your address on vinted is something you input carefully/is automated. I've never bought on there myself so I don't know what the process of buying something is like.

It is a bit odd. When buying, you have to select the courier so wouldn’t they remember about their new address then? Why wait till after you’ve posted it?

But I also don’t understand why the seller asked you to cancel, they could’ve cancelled. If you cancel, don’t you automatically get a poor rating?

I would get in touch with Vinted, so you have proof before the seller lodges an issue or if the rug isn’t returned. Good luck though, their customer service isn’t brilliant.

I've never cancelled an order/luckily no bad ratings so I'm not sure. I did ask the person if they could access the address eg. If the accidentally selected door number 1 instead of 3 from a drop down list they could just go and ask if the package is there but they said they couldn't access the address.

That’s ridiculous for them to ask you to cancel the sale after you’ve already posted it to the address they’ve provided!! They are taking the piss.

I would definitely try and contact vinted to advise them of this - hopefully they will be sensible about it.

@gollyimholly

The buyer would have put in the address and it is on the screen in front of you as you click on pay so there is no excuse really, it is their error and they will have to make the effort to go to the delivery address to get the parcel.

There is nothing you can do as you cannot cancel a transaction and stop the parcel after it has been sent, it is in the hands of the couriers then.

You should be able to get a photo of the delivery from the tracking or be able to see the delivery coordinates etc.

I doubt vinted will do anything as the parcel has been delivered to the address inputed by the buyer so the sale has been fulfilled and you have done your part of the deal, I would think they will not agree with the buyer if they raise an issue as everything has been done correctly.

Do not worry about feedback - it only matters if you get loads of negative.

You can respond underneath and you can also leave it for the buyer.

A sale cannot be cancelled after it has been sent.

If they do raise an issue do not click on resolve this issue as that will give them a ful refund, just respond to vinted with the facts and let them deal with it.

Take screenshots of everything as messages can dissappear - the buyer has admitted they put in the wrong address so it is their mistake to sort out.

Yeah it's unfortunate for them (tho it doesn't ring true). Mistake is on them.

I've had this recently and wondered if it was a new scam. Mine was slightly different though. Buyer purchased, then messaged to say she'd accidentally put her mother's address, and me to change the label. I said I couldn't, and advised her to cancel and repurchase under her own address. I gave her a sense of when i could post but I never heard back from her. In the end I sent the package, but I took screen shots on the interaction.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 23/04/2025 08:40

I think the seller is just messing you around.
check their reviews to see if they’re a regular buyer, they can’t all have gone to the wrong address
Don’t worry about negative reviews
when you cancel there is space to select the reason “ buyer requested cancellation”

Thank you everyone for your replies. I've had an update to say the transaction has been suspended and it is under review. Which means the buyer has triggered something on their end and I suppose essentially beat me to contacting Vinted.

I've told Vinted what I have messaged here. The buyer's reviews are at 3.7 (and mine at 5 stars) and so I hope that counts in my favour when they review this.

I do feel a bit dejected about the whole thing at the moment.

Oh please don’t feel dejected. You’ve fulfilled your part. Frankly the 3.7 stars says it all.
I have 5 stars too and treat everyone with respect and kindness. Many don’t nowadays.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 23/04/2025 10:08

You’ll be refunded shortly

gollyimholly · 01/05/2025 01:16

Just to update - after explaining to Vinted what had happened they said that the buyer would need to get in touch with them and raise the problem. I messaged the buyer relaying that information - the message was marked as "seen" but they didn't reply to me. That was all on the 23rd.

Yesterday (30th) I received a notification from Vinted stating that the sale was completed and I would be receiving the payment into my balance soon. And then just as promised, my balance updated to reflect the payment.

Thank you everyone for your advice and kind words on this here. I'm so pleased it all got resolved too. I haven't heard anything from the buyer but I've been asked by those auto generated messages to leave a review. I will leave an honest review but I also wonder whether the buyer will have the opportunity to review me... and she might leave me a bad review to spite me because I left her a bad one 😬

You can reply to feedback. Try not to sweat this stuff too much, the world is full of all sorts of people and their issues aren't your issues.

gentlefluiditygold · 01/05/2025 12:56

I’m glad it’s worked out in the end for you OP but this was an obvious scam. They get a notification once it’s posted and then messaging after, knowing it’s already sent, asking to cancel is massively sus. Their address is visible on the very first page when buying something and you can edit it from there. Their bad rating is a massive red flag.
I’ve added a pic to show you what a buying page looks like for future OP, black blob is the address.
