Trip to Prague - recommendation of where to visit

Hi everyone, at half term at the end of May we (me, DH, a teen and a tween) are going to Prague. We will have 3 full days there and I'm trying to think of things to see and do whilst there.

Does anyone have any recommendations of where would be good to visit? We'd be doing the free stuff like the astronomical clock, King Wenceslas Square and Charles bridge. For paid attractions I was thinking of the castle and cathedral, the zoo and the Zizkov TV tower. We might try the Choco Story, the brick museum or the planetarium too. Me and DH would like to go to the Staropramen visitor centre of Pilnser Urquell Experience too, but I'm not sure how good it'd be for the 2 under 18s!

Has anyone been to these or can recommend other places? Also, does anyone have any other tips for Prague like eateries, supermarkets, things to buy, what public transport is like, or anything else?

Thanks in advance!

Public transport is great.
No issues with food even though I'm veggie and GF. Some great little cafés.
I loved the boat trip around the harbour and we also did a WWII walking tour which was really interesting.
You might be over estimating what you can comfortably do in 3 days.
The people are lovely.
You'll have a great time.

Thanks, you may be right with the timings! It's good to know the people and public transport are both good.

I mean on the river, not harbour.

A boat trip, the Hop on Hop off bus is great and takes you up in the hills to the castle, loads of places to eat in Wenceslas Square, grab a tradlnik ice cream with Nutella. The garnet jewellery is gorgeous.

Petrin park is lovely . The observatory there was really interesting. We hired pedalos on the river .. that was fun

The ice cream sounds delicious, thanks.

Thanks, I think I've heard of Petrin Park, is that the place with the mini Eiffel tower?

Ah yes that would make more sense. I thought I'd missed something. I love wandering around Prague..

The municipal house is an absolute must visit.

Have tea and cake in the art nouveau tea room one day and traditional goulash and a beer in the beer hall another day. Fantastic experience. All surrounded by Czech art and architecture.

The dancing house us worth a quick stop to look at the building and have coffee on the roof.

The castle, cathedral, the square, the old town the clock the bridge, and the Jewish quarter are the main sights to see.

Sunpeace · 22/04/2025 22:40

The public transport is excellent and it's a lovely safe city to walk around with some great places to visit- the Kafka sculpture revolving head, the dancing house, the Jewish quarter etc. I like Albert supermarkets and there's an apocathery store called Botanicus which sells some lovely things to bring back- toiletries, herbal teas etc. Also a shop selling traditional puppets nearby. The local crystal and garnet is lovely too. Enjoy!

The pub where your food and drinks arrive via a miniature railway. Not sure how to spell the name, something like Vytopna??
Lots of boats at the river function as bars. We had a lovely time sitting on deckchairs with cocktails on a sunny spring afternoon.
The funicular up to the park.

Hi yes that’s it. It’s beautifully lit at night. Someone else mentioned the vernacular railway. We did that too, but O think it may be closed at the moment.

Just loved strolling around, sitting at outdoor cafes and watching the world go by. Quite a shock coming back to scruffy UK.

Thanks @WorriedRelative @Dox9 @Sunpeace and @user1471550643 . You've given me lots to consider 😊

How was your trip OP? Thinking to take my teens in october

munchbunch12 · 21/09/2025 12:32

It was great, thanks. The biggest hits were the boat trip, Petrin park, the Zizkov TV tower and the zoo. Public transport was clean, cheap and reliable too. Hope you have a great trip if you go!
