Student DS summer labouring job

My 19 year old is looking for casual work over the summer. He is talking about getting a CSCS card. It looks like he needs the Green CSCS card for entry level workers. Is anyone familiar with this sort of summer job ? I did hospitality and retail work as a student so this is all new to me. Also, he has no car and I'm concerned he won't be able to get public transport to building sites. Is it normal for the guys to get picked up by van?

On a lot of sites the brickies work in self employed gangs and the labourer is usually the one who provides the transport and labouring for brickies is quite a skilled job. Sometimes they have an extra labourer though.
Small building firms might be a better bet as they will have a wider variety of jobs and usually provide transport from the yard.
Council might have seasonal jobs.
Landscapers might have work, as might fencers, and farms often milking. It does depend where you live.
