Best coastal town / village to live in within one hour of Liverpool

Looking to relocate but no need to be in a specific area. We’re fortunate in that respect but makes choosing an area harder!
It needs to have a beach close by for walks, and the sea to be nice enough for swimming should the weather allow! Proximity to a couple of shops would be good. We’re not in that formby footballers mansions budgets - far far from it. But we would like a three bed house with some garden. The area is more important than the house.
I wasn’t sure where to post this but hoping you can all help.

What about Wallasey or Hoylake ?

I don't know the Wirral well, but have vague memories of being surprised to find a nice beach / seaside there.

Crosby!

SiobhanSharpe · 22/04/2025 00:22

West Kirby?

Hightown?

Crosby!

Swimming is banned and you’d be a complete idiot to even try it there. Otherwise, Crosby is perfect. Live in Blundellsands / Brighton-le-Sands, they’re much the nicest parts. Loads of decent properties. Fantastic transport links. College Road full of shops and places to eat.

Formby/Freshfield or Thurstaston

DrEllie · 22/04/2025 00:30

I live in Wirral. New brighton/Wallasey is nice and more affordable than West wirral, depends on what you want

Ahsheeit · 22/04/2025 00:33

Wallasey is fine as long as you don't want a town centre, because Liscard is half dead and seriously lacking investment. Look at west Wirral - some gorgeous places there.

mummyto9angels · 22/04/2025 06:24

New brighton every time for me but I am biassed as it is in my heart

Wellfuckmesideways · 22/04/2025 06:25

What is your budget?

DefinitelyMaybe92 · 22/04/2025 08:30

New Brighton or Hoylake.

NCTDN · 22/04/2025 21:14

My initial thoughts were for West Kirby. Budget £350-450k.
I wasn’t sure how the Wirral compares to ainsdale / birkdsle / formby but guess we don’t have the budget for there anyway.
