Career change….help me decide!

I am a Deputy Head / SENCO / Safeguarding lead. I do love my job but my progression is now to be a Headteacher which I don’t want to be so I’m considering a career change!

The thing is I don’t know what to!

My favourite part of my job is the safeguarding and protecting children from harm (well trying to anyway). I work in a trauma informed school and I am passionate about this particularly looked after children.

What job would suit these passions? If I had my time again I’d be a social worker but I can’t afford to retrain!

Any ideas? x

Oh, not dissimilar to me. Are you primary or secondary?

I'm DSL, CIC DT and Attendance Lead. Large secondary academy. I want to move into pastoral and behaviour next. I'm planning in headship and then a Trust role. Maybe even (whispers) ofsted.

I fancied social care before going into SLT but it would be a salary step down by quite a bit from secondary SLT.

If you're primary and looking for more challenge and higher salary, there are lots of non-teaching secondary SLT roles as DSL and SENCO. Round me (Midlands) they pay in the region of L11-L18.

My LA has a education liaison in children's services should used to be a Headteacher. That's maybe a possibility?

I've thought about police and NHS roles too, but having looked at pay scales they just dont compare. I'd be taking a big drop unless you can go in at a very high level.
