Delayed flight compensation

I've had a flight delayed by 25 hours. Original flight cancelled and we were sent to a hotel. We've had transfers, accommodation and food all covered.
I'm wondering if we can claim compensation and if anyone has done this successfully? The airline is Malaysian Airlines and the delay is in Kuala Lumpur.

To add: I've stupidly realised that the worldwide travel insurance I had through my bank is now European only. Really bloody stupid I know but I was so sure it was covered I didn't think to check before a last minute trip. I've got cover now.

Thanks.

I recently had compensation for a delayed Aer Lingus flight. It was very small beer in comparison — a shorthaul flight delayed by a few hours. But I just filled out the delay claim form and sent it off to Aer Lingus.

Where’s the flight going to?

If the delay was not uk rekated and airline is not UK or EU based you do not get automatic compensation. If you had expenses paid that is probably all you are due.

Thank you, that's useful to know. I'm normally so on it with insurance so typical that the one time I drop the ball this happens!
