I literally remember everything. Mundane conversations from 20 years ago, people's birthdays, their partners birthdays. Basically useless information ! I remember dates of birth and figures very well aswell. I amaze my colleagues.

Yes the same, telephone numbers from decades ago if I had to ring them a few times. My teachers number plate from primary school I was six. Heads feels over full sometimes.

Yes same. And it creates a weird dynamic because people think my memory of an interaction with them means I especially remember them/ am over invested. But I remember everything.

Ha, yes, I have this - they think I must really care about them, but no, it’s not that!

Yes I find this too!

It really annoys me sometimes that I remember so much detail, because sometimes it’s about people I’d rather forget.

Yes. I remember the majority of childrens names who were in my class, when I was 6-9 years old, and most of their birthdays. I also remember my parents phone number from the 1970s, and DH's parents number from the late 1980s, and 1990s. And all of my aunts and uncles and great aunts and uncles phone numbers. AND all their addresses where they lived when I was a child. Even though many of them died 30+ years ago. I can also remember 4 or 5 of my parents neighbours birthdates too. Even though most died mid 1990s or earlier.

Oddly, I can't remember any of mine and DH's (landline) phone numbers except 2 we had in the late 1980s, and the 1990s. We had 3 different landline numbers between late 1990s and early 2010s, and I can't remember them! (We have had the same landline phone number since 2012 now.)

I'm sorry, you're finding a problematic, but I can only dream of it, I have the exact opposite problem, my memory is absolutely shot 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️. Long-term and short-term. 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♀️

Fluffyflipflop · 18/04/2025 09:09

I am the literal opposite. I remember loose threads of childhood but often get details wrong. My best friend is like you and so she fills in the gaps.

Toddlerteaplease · 18/04/2025 09:11

Yes, I also remember peoples number plates.

MyKingdomForACat · 18/04/2025 09:13

Yep. In fact I tried to Google because it seems odd to me. Today I’ve remembered it’s my old next door neighbour’s birthday. I moved 32 years ago and we no longer keep in touch. Another bday tomorrow of someone I worked with in the 80s and not seen or heard of since 1987. Left work 5 years ago but could still tell you the dates of every birthday in the office. It’s irrelevant to me now so why is it all stuck in my head with total recall

MyKingdomForACat · 18/04/2025 09:14

Oh yes, my mum’s car number plates from the 60s and 70s

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · 18/04/2025 09:21

Yes. Very much so. But in the moment I’m incredibly forgetful. If you tell me your date of birth I’ll remember it forever but ask me to post a letter. No chance!

VirgosNeedGoals · 18/04/2025 09:25

Similar. It's a burden not a gift. There are plenty of things I'd rather forget and I hold a massive grudge.

BertieBotts · 18/04/2025 09:46

I can't remember things like birthdays and numberplates, but I do have very good episodic memory, it will play like a movie in my head that I can move through and experience it again.

If you have unusually good memory to the point you could identify without looking at your calendar/photos for that day what you were doing on this exact day X years ago, (if it's not a significant date of course!) you can apply to a study at a US university as they are looking to learn more about people with that kind of memory.

Yeah, the names of a taxi driver couple my parents used to use when we were kids 🤦🏻‍♀️ my mum was trying to place them the other day and it came to me within seconds. I can remember most of my class’s full names from primary school too.

This stuff crowds up my head, honestly, and I’ll randomly pull up a full name from someone I sat next to on a coach trip to the Roman ruins aged 7 and probably exactly what they had in their lunchbox and the order it was eaten 🤣

Sometimes its so random, like at 2am just let me sleep 🤦🏻‍♀️😭

Ariela · 18/04/2025 09:54

I'm loosing the names a bit (64) but used to have a very good memory.
The other really good memory trick I have is colour matching. Eg, say I have a bedroom painted green. I can pick the exact same shade of green in accessories in an (unrelated to the paint) shop without reference to the paint/wall. Likewise if I buy fabric, I put it on the table for cutting and wander off and get exactly the right shade to sew with - always fun to amaze staff with that one!

indignantpigmy · 18/04/2025 10:13

Yes, me too. But I can't remember what I went upstairs for.
I feel like a computer that's run out if storage, I'd love to delete loads of old rubbish to be able to store new, relevant info.

Octopus45 · 18/04/2025 15:32

Yes, I have the memory of an elephant. Sometimes it’s useful, but tbh I remember embarrassing things and things people have said to me in the past, I literally remember things people said to me when I was very young g. Sometimes I wish I had forgotten a lot of stuff
