Can I put up 2 sheds on my own.

Kids are going to their fathers later . Teen dd is going with them . So im 💯% child free till Monday. I do feel a bit sad though because I won't see ds on his birthday. We celebrated yesterday but it just didn't feel right 😭. Ds was happy its a me thing really.

I need to put up 2 metal sheds on my own . Its going to be hell . One is going up in the front garden so I can put the kids bikes and scooters in there. The other is going in the back garden.

Today I'm going to sort the front garden out. There's weeds growing through the gaps in the patio I need that all cleared before I can build the shed.

Once they are both up I can organise things better and everything will look more tidy.

I also need to tidy my first floor. Tidy my room and the bathroom. Wash all bedding in the house. Fold clean washing and put away. Apart from bedding im actually on top of my washing 👍

Once I have done all the above my house and garden will be 100% tidy.

Possibly you can, if your surname is Jackson. (I'll just leave that there, and see how long it takes before someone knows what I mean ... )

Seriously, it depends on the sheds. I would think there's a risk of putting your back out or otherwise hurting yourself. Can't you get someone to help?

Yellowbrickroad77 · 17/04/2025 10:09

Air tasker it? Then you'll have more time to enjoy your beautiful home over the long weekend.

Good luck! You got this 💪

AppleKatie · 17/04/2025 10:10

I have no idea if you can.

i couldn’t 🤣 I could do all the rest up to the point of building the shed, for that I’d get a professional - mainly about the base I should think? And the roof.

The issue is you often need one person to hold things in place while the other does the bolts/screws etc.

However you don't know until you look!
Any friends you can invite over for a drink/cuppa, chat and a helping hand?

persisted · 17/04/2025 10:12

Practically I think it would be tricky, you need someone to hold up the other end of a big panel while you put the screws in. So if you can get someone round to help for a few hours it'll be easier.

EveryKneeShallBow · 17/04/2025 10:13

I’m sure you’re able to do it. Though you might need another person for holding something while you screw it into place.

Well the Jackson thing has definitely gone one my head 🤷.

No one to help . I think the roof will be hardest. It says to put it together on the floor then lift it to sit in the frame after. Not sure how heavy it will be guess I will find out.

No there's no one. I thought i could use a chair or something to prop parts that needing holding in place 🤔

I don’t think so, but maybe it depends on size?
I’ve helped DH put a shed up and we definitely needed one to hold whilst one screwed but this was one that was tall enough for me to stand up in.
If you have something to prop the sides up with to hold in place it might be doable. Sounds like you are on a mission today 💪🏻 good luck!

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 17/04/2025 10:21

Those metal sheds are absolute bastards, if it's the ones with ten thousand tiny screws to fix together a pile of thin panels. You can absolutely do it by yourself, but be prepared for it to take three times longer than you expected and to want to burn the world to the ground about half way through.

That's what I'm thinking. The small one is around 4ft in height. So I was going to use something to prop panels up.

The missing starts tomorrow 😅. My motivation is telling me to do it today . But its probably best done when I'm child free

This, DH & DS2 assembled a very large keter storeage box (to house my mobility scooter) it took both of them 2hrs, holes not drilled in alignment etc, and screws, loads and loads of screws. It would have been really difficult with just one of them doing the roof was the heaviest part. Good luck OP, I admire your spirit Flowers

Yes it has 7 million screws. Yes definitely take 3 times longer than normal. Everything i do takes longer than it should. Yep probably swear piss myself off get frustrated over stupid shit that should be easy.

I was thinking about the roof. Think the worst case is asking ex to lift it on for me when he drops the kids back. I don't want to ask him though 😅

Any of your teenager's mates who might come to help you do the trickier bits for for £10/£20? I know my teen would gladly do it for a bit of pocket money!

lifemakeover · 17/04/2025 10:49

This is Airtasker by the way - I've never used it so no clue exactly how it works or how successful you'll be in finding someone - also assumes you have spare cash to pay someone more than just pocket money amounts.

Depending on the size of the shed, you may require planning permission to put it in your front garden.

WonderingWanda · 17/04/2025 10:51

My dh put up our shed on his own so I reckon you can do it.

Oh ok. No definitely not doing that. I won't have a sense of achievement if I do that 😅

Actually, any outbuilding in the front garden/ forward of the dwelling will require planning permission

We put up a metal shed last year. It took 3 adults and 3 teenagers to lift the roof into place....and a lot of swearing!

DinoLil · 17/04/2025 10:59

I got my odd job guy to put a metal shed together for me. It's about 5ft high. He hated me for it because he started it and then called his mate to do it because it was such a mare to put together.

I have no problem with flat packs, but I didn't want to even try after looking at the instructions!
