Kids are going to their fathers later . Teen dd is going with them . So im 💯% child free till Monday. I do feel a bit sad though because I won't see ds on his birthday. We celebrated yesterday but it just didn't feel right 😭. Ds was happy its a me thing really.

I need to put up 2 metal sheds on my own . Its going to be hell . One is going up in the front garden so I can put the kids bikes and scooters in there. The other is going in the back garden.

Today I'm going to sort the front garden out. There's weeds growing through the gaps in the patio I need that all cleared before I can build the shed.

Once they are both up I can organise things better and everything will look more tidy.

I also need to tidy my first floor. Tidy my room and the bathroom. Wash all bedding in the house. Fold clean washing and put away. Apart from bedding im actually on top of my washing 👍

Once I have done all the above my house and garden will be 100% tidy.

We put up a metal shed last year. It took 3 adults and 3 teenagers to lift the roof into place....and a lot of swearing!

But is that because someone said to the left then they said not my next your left. Then lift on 3 or when I say lift lift . Then they lift to fast . Etc.

I'm definitely doing it on my own so I can come back and say I done the work of 6 people on my own 😅

I'm bored shitless. Im thinking I could make a start . I could put the roof together in doors. Then it's ready for tomorrow

No i went and opend the wrong box so took the wrong roof parts out . Then ds video called me for an hour. So that was my sign not to do it . Least i can start at a decent time tomorrow.

Possibly you can, if your surname is Jackson. (I'll just leave that there, and see how long it takes before someone knows what I mean ... )

Seriously, it depends on the sheds. I would think there's a risk of putting your back out or otherwise hurting yourself. Can't you get someone to help?

Arthur "Two Sheds" @Time40.

Do I win the prize? 🏆 😃

All I can offer is this nugget of advice:
DO NOT REMOVE YOUR GLOVES

DH and I were putting up a metal shed. I took off my gloves cos they were pissing me off
5 mins later I'm bleeding like a stuck pig
Hours in A&E, followed by surgery to repair the nerves I'd cut through

Good luck!

Oh that's not good . I did notice the edges are pretty sharp. I hate gloves, sounds awful hope your OK now.

Do I win the prize?

Yep. Well done! Your prize is a fine gold-plated copy of the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch, and a bunch of lupins.

Fabulous @Time40

I’m weirdly invested how’s it going?

Good Luck OP. Come back and tell us how you got on. I built a small Keter shed with my sister and that had us swearing. Definitely needed two people as the sides and roof were flexing all over the shop.

I started at 11.10 and I only just finished the roof ffs . I done it in my living room. Got to do the rest outside. I think. Which I'm not happy about.

Baked beans cans seem stronger than the side panels

Practically I think it would be tricky, you need someone to hold up the other end of a big panel while you put the screws in. So if you can get someone round to help for a few hours it'll be easier.

Yes, this. Realistically, it is a 2 person job.

bananaramaisdabomb · 18/04/2025 13:49

When we put up a metal shed, it had to go on a concrete foundation slab. That was fun 😱 (Mixing up concrete is hard work!)

Then I have a good excuse for taking almost 3hrs to do the roof on my own 😅

I'm putting it directly on concrete. Should be fine

Also shamelessly placemarking 😂

minnienono · 18/04/2025 14:06

you can do it! But just to echo others, you do need permission for front gardens but bike stores are usually granted as long as it’s obscured by planting from neighbouring houses and a fence/hedge from the street.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 18/04/2025 14:07

I’ve done it myself and it’s v doable just annoying with 7537 bastard screws, you will need something to hold pieces up to screw together (I used high back dining chairs). It’s fiddly but possible

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 18/04/2025 14:09

And god yes, keep the gloves on. I started without and looked like I’d high fived Edward Scissorhand

Yeah I'm pretty sure it won't cause an issue. We don't grass round here 😅 and even if council see it the worse that will happen is i have to move it.
