My son has been really poorly with unexplained vomiting on and off for about 18 months now. He's been in A&E numerous times, and put in a drip because of dehydration. He's had scans, blood tests etc.
He's lost over 2 stone in weight. He starts to put it back on, then goes bad again and loses it.
He had a 5 day stay in hospital 2 months ago, where he was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. He started on the meds and seemed to improve.
Last Monday, he started vomiting again. He was admitted to hospital on Saturday and released yesterday with a diagnosis of cyclic vomiting syndrome.
Had anyone had any experience with this?
They've started him on beta blockers.

Hi,

Sorry just found your post, as I was searching for anyone else on here whose children have CVS.

I hope the beta blockers are helping your son and you're both doing OK.

My son is 10 and was diagnosed with CVS when he was 5, though wasn't text book and understand it's a diagnosis of exclusion, so had to rule out all sorts first. His episodes usually last about a week, but are months apart, especially since he was started on Pizotifen (preventive medicine for migraines) when he was 7. He even managed to go almost 2 years without an episode requiring hospital treatment, and we mistakenly thought he was maybe outgrowing them till he had one last week that had him in hospital for 5 days.

Not 100 percent sure of his triggers, but sometimes seems to be after back to back infections, if he is tired or excited. We were told he may grow out of CVS then go on to get migraines.

I'm not sure what I was looking for, but as it's quite an unusual condition, I've never met anyone else with it and hard for others to understand what it's like. At his peak he vomits 6x an hour and this episode it seemed to take him longer to get beyond the two hour gap mark and even yesterday he still had some vomiting and anxiety was creeping in on my part that he was going to relapse and start again. But thankfully he's always been fine after each episode.

You maybe have found all the information you needed since you posted, but if there's any questions, just ask 🙂
