Millennial - 23. Only because I stayed and lived at home while at uni. Moved out at 23.. then moved home for 4 months while my house purchase went through at 25 (parents insisted as saved a fortune on renting a flat alone after roommate moved out). My brother moved out 29 .. after he had had saved enough for a deposit plus renovations. Parents were fine with this however as just happy he got on the property ladder.

Late boomer. 18 to go to university, never went back. Shared grotty bedsits with no proper bathroom and a toilet shared among many rooms for years. But no job prospects where I grew up, nor any idea from parents that I might move back.

nonmerci99 · 15/04/2025 09:10

Millennial — 18 for uni. Lived at home the summer after my first year (uni was local) but then never again.

Aworldofmyown · 15/04/2025 09:11

Gen X, I was 16.

LuluDelulu · 15/04/2025 09:17

I’m a Millenial and I was a boomerang. Left at 18, returned for uni holidays, returned for year at 21, left at 22, returned from age 24 to 26 then finally left home for good at 26 when I’d saved for a house deposit.

pizzaonawednesday · 15/04/2025 09:21

Am mid GenX and left at 18 for uni, don't remember going back in hols to live after te 1st year as did a year in industry degree and DM moved in my final year anyway so no "home" to go back to.

Kids are gen z / alpha boundary and am hoping they will go to uni at 18 too so I can leave the crap suburban town now exh insisted we move to 16 years ago.

BlondeMummyto1 · 15/04/2025 09:23

I don’t use those stupid terms. I was born 1990 and moved out when I was 22.

Lovelynames123 · 15/04/2025 09:24

1980 born so a young gen x...went to uni but came back after graduation, bought a house and moved out at 24.

I did return for a year at 29 after a relationship breakdown

In the area I live it's possible to buy a house for £100/125k so I think most young adults do leave home, can't see this being possible in many areas though

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 15/04/2025 09:25

Gen X. 18

2chocolateoranges · 15/04/2025 09:29

My mum moved out at when she got married.
I was 24 and dh was 26 when we moved out of our parents homes.

we still have a 21 yr old(still got one more year of uni to go - masters year) and
a 23 yr old (who has 3 years of professional exams to sit to be qualified- has one more year to go) No rush for either to leave though eldest has saved a substantial amount for a deposit on a flat. .

Clomid100 · 15/04/2025 12:11

Millennial and moved out at 17

LavenderBlue19 · 15/04/2025 12:14

My mum, Boomer - 28 when she got married. My dad was 29, same. Not religious or anything, just didn't see the point in moving out before.

Me, Xennial - 24 after moving back for a year or so after uni. Moved into a shared house, definitely couldn't afford to buy, very expensive area. I don't know anyone who bought pre-30 without significant inheritance.

Waterlilysunset · 15/04/2025 12:15

18 for me and brother

18 for both my parents

polarsystem · 15/04/2025 12:15

Millennial - 18

Tiegs · 15/04/2025 12:17

15

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 15/04/2025 12:18

Boomer - left at 17.
My kids, all millenials - one left at 17, the rest left at 18 for university and only one came back after uni, she left finally at 23.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 15/04/2025 12:21

19 when I went to uni, although I returned in the holidays and then returned for 6 months or so after graduating before going travelling and returning again for a few months. Think I was 25 when I got my first job and properly got my own flat. I’m a millennial.

astorcody · 15/04/2025 12:22

Gen Z, I was 20.

wastingtimeonhere · 15/04/2025 12:23

DM boomer at 20
Me gen z at 19
DC millennials at 18, 18 and 19 although the 2 olders bounced back a couple of times around uni/ work/ marriage/ relocation/ house buying

dontforgetme · 15/04/2025 12:24

Can someone explain these terms to me?

I am 32 and moved out at 16, back for a couple of years at 19, moved back out at 21.

w0nderwall · 15/04/2025 12:33

Gen X - went to university at 18, came back in holidays, and continued to do so while working abroad as a teacher for three years. Last proper stint at home was probably age 24ish - a month or two.

Am expecting my Gen Z kids - currently at school - to do similarly, and possibly for longer.

SatanicAngel · 15/04/2025 12:34

Gen X, I was 16.

agingforgold · 15/04/2025 12:35

25

BelfastBard · 15/04/2025 12:36

Millenial. Left at 16.

Odiebay · 15/04/2025 12:38

Millennial. Lived at home until 29 when I purchased my forever home with my partner. Loved living at home that long and so did my parent. Managed to save decently and don't have a big mortgage on a nice home.
