Generation X, and left home at 17 which is probably a bit out of the ordinary. Then worked for a few years and went to university late (21). Never lived at home after 17 though. Lived in rented shared houses for years ... Outside London people don't seem to do this anymore.

My own parents were the pre-boomer "silent generation" born in 1937 and 1940. One left home for the RAF at 16, the other at 17 to move into nurses accommodation when she started her nursing career.

My DSDs (millennials) didn't fledge until their mid-twenties.

Time4changeagain · 15/04/2025 07:48

Gen X - 16
DD1 Late Millennial - 26
DD2 Gen Z - 19 Uni but living at home

LovelySG · 15/04/2025 07:50

I’m 58. I left at 18 for university and then straight to work. I never lived with my parents again.

My kids the same.

batterypower · 15/04/2025 07:51

Gen X - was thrown out at 15

DCs both Gen Z - left at 20 and 21

reluctantbrit · 15/04/2025 07:55

Gen X- I was 24. But I had been in a long-distance relationship and we wanted to wait until my now husband had a permanent job after uni. It wouldn't have made sense me moving, getting a job and moving again.

Paid my parents rent.

Poppymeldrum · 15/04/2025 07:56

Gen x
I was 18 and my mother made it clear I wasn't welcome as the child benefit had ran out
I ended up in a grotty bedsit and spent a period homeless before accidentally falling pregnant
I moved in with my boyfriends family briefly before getting my own place (which was a mistake due to dv)
Moved 4 times before meeting my now dp and we own our home,no mortgage

Singaporeannoodle · 15/04/2025 07:57

Icequeen01 · 15/04/2025 07:57

PickettWhiteFences · 15/04/2025 07:57

I am early Gen z, moved out at 18 but came back home when I did my masters at the local uni. Moved two hours away for job at 23 and havent lived at home since.

Picklingwalnuts · 15/04/2025 08:05

My parents are boomers (dad silent gen) and were late moving out of their parents homes for their generation, they were mid 20's. In laws were 19 when they married but lived with parents for first few years of marriage.

DH and I are Gen X - both moved out at 26

DS19 and lives half the week at home, half at gf. Would move out if he and gf could afford a home of their own.

DD17 and still lives at home and probably will do so for many years

trailmx · 15/04/2025 08:06

boomer, left home at 16. Went from north east to seaside town on south coast to do a 2 yr pre nursing course. Lived in nurses home and food and accommodation provided.
`broke all the rules (it was the 60s after all) had the most amazing time. Climbed out of window after curfew to go to all night parties, then worked next day can't remember being tired or hung over.

Wells37 · 15/04/2025 08:09

Gen x I was 18

Doggymummar · 15/04/2025 08:10

16 when I went to college. 19 when I bought my first property. My brother had to be evicted at 25, my parents moved abroad and didn't take him.

Eze · 15/04/2025 08:12

Gen x 22.

I had a complicated relationship with my mother so had to sneak my stuff out the house to move in with then boyfriend (now exH).

When she twigged a few weeks later she flew into a rage and threw out everything I hadn’t taken and redecorated my room.

She’d manipulated and guilt tripped me into staying local and commuting for uni as I’d planned to be away at 18. Been no contact for nearly 15 years now. Best decision ever.

Poisonwood · 15/04/2025 08:16

I’m gen X, and was disowned by my family - left at 16, pregnant. Three of my gen Z DDs left at 17/18 for Uni. One rarely comes home as her career takes her all over the world, two now live in the same village as me.

TheBewleySisters · 15/04/2025 08:19

I was 18. I’m a boomer.

funmamamoo · 15/04/2025 08:22

Late Gen X (1980) and left on 19th Birthday for Uni. Came home (after Uni) for 6 months before releasing I needed my own space and never went back.

Semana · 15/04/2025 08:23

17 in 1990.

CriminalCoffee · 15/04/2025 08:23

I was 21. I have no idea what generation I am. I’m late 30’s if that helps.

Rightsraptor · 15/04/2025 08:39

Mid-boomer. I was 18. As was my sister.

nachoaverageusername · 15/04/2025 08:41

Mil - 18 for Uni then the Army and never went back!

1apenny2apenny · 15/04/2025 08:43

My parents Silent Generation, married older, first house 1959.
Me Gen X left home at 22, bought own house at 23, didn’t go to uni
My children Gen Z at uni but first will come back to live at home as first job is local.

autumnboys · 15/04/2025 08:46

I spent my university holidays at home and went back when I graduated, moving out again later that year, so I would say 21. I’m Gen X.

My kids are 15, 19 and 21. The 19 year old is at Uni but here in his holidays. The 21 yo works and is saving for a house deposit. The 15yo is off the hook for now.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 15/04/2025 09:03

Gen X - 20. Moved out and into a flat (shiity cold one) with my boyfriend.

My parents 20 I believe.

Wheelbarrowracer · 15/04/2025 09:03

Xennial. Uni at 18 and never really went back.
Dh Gen x: 16

Parents: boomers. Dad kind of boomeranged from 17 for 3 years. Left home for good at 26, when he married my mum (23). Had taken them 4 years to save enough to buy a shell of a house with no bathroom or heating. Both paid rent to their parents from 15.

Gdad: left at 15 to be an apprentice. Then joined the war. Then got married.
