Money hasn’t been taken out of my account

I bought quite expensive item (couple of hundred pounds) online via PayPal.
Payment went through. I have the email receipt from PayPal and the product.

I put the order nearly 3 weeks ago and …. Nothing has come out of my account. It was a debit card too so really it should have appeared on the day.

What am I supposed to do? I’m more worried that someone is going to wake up at some point and the money won’t be in the account anymore.

What do you mean ‘someone is going to wake up and the money won’t be in the account anymore’?

coldandfrostymorning23 · 14/04/2025 12:32

Call your bank and discuss with them?

amber763 · 14/04/2025 12:34

Contact PayPal. Also dont spend the money

MoneyDisappeared · 14/04/2025 12:35

Well my bank clearly doesn’t have any record of the transaction so I’m unsure as to what they can do….
Plus if there is any issue, it’s with PayPal no?

@batterypower im thinking like a transaction that has been held up by the IT system and suddenly get released?
If this happens now or next month, no issue.
If this happens in 9 months?? Different situation

So what do you think you should do? Because I’d say the obvious answer is to go and speak to PayPal… not sure what this thread is for.

How do you contact PayPal?
Ive only seen stuff about dispute with a shop, not anything like ‘you didn’t take the payment!’

Log into your PayPal account and check it's in there. Have you got a pay in 30 days account with them?

AquaPeer · 14/04/2025 12:39

Just put the money go one side now so you don’t spend it then move it back into your current account if that happens

The same as every other website. Go to their site, scroll down to the bottom and click on “contact” then send use their “send a message function.”

ShaunaSadeki · 14/04/2025 12:58

Are you totally sure that you didn’t pay with PayPal credit or pay later?

SwornToSilence · 14/04/2025 12:59

Close your bank account and flee the country!

MoneyDisappeared · 14/04/2025 13:05

@SwornToSilence i could but not sure it’s worth for £200 😂😂

That means the payment would potentially be rejected though…..

I’d check that you didn’t accidentally use Paypal credit, if you leave it you will be stung with interest charges. Log into your paypal account and see what it says against the transaction.

Twinkletoes10 · 14/04/2025 13:07

Did you receive the item?

storminabuttercup · 14/04/2025 13:08

I had this recently, my bank had no idea what I was talking about and it showed completed on PayPal it took about two week to finally leave my account. It’ll definately come out but contact PayPal to nudge the gremlins along

MoneyDisappeared · 14/04/2025 13:08

I’ve just checked again my account with PayPal.
The transaction is there, showing as having gone through, like any other payment (before or after).
Its not on credit, pay in 3 times etc….

OP this happened to me recently when I realised Paypal hadnt taken around £150 from my bank account for an Amazon purchase. the money eas finally taken at around 11 days

Isobel201 · 14/04/2025 13:09

that's quite normal - I paid off a paypal loan and the money didn't come out of my account immediately.

MoneyDisappeared · 14/04/2025 13:11

How long did it take for the money to be coming out of your account?

OP posts:
AgnesX · 14/04/2025 13:11

PayPal have really slow at taking money just lately - as in 3-4 days sometimes. Never as long as your situation though.

SingWithMeJustForToday · 14/04/2025 13:31

It can't happen in 9 months. They've got up to 6 months to take the payment without notice, after that point, they need to provide you with notice of when they intend to take the money. They have up to 6 years in total to reconcile the debt.

So by ‘someone’ you meant you?

faerietales · 14/04/2025 14:03

It can take quite a few days for transactions to come through.
