Used a tampon, now can't pee

Since having DC2 I find I can't wee with a tampon in, and they feel quite uncomfortable anyway so I've just not been using them at all (it's been 3 years].

Yesterday I had to use one, and I wasn't near a toilet all afternoon so kept it quite a while and was also pretty dehydrated. Not an ideal combo.

This morning I feel like I don't have any urge to wee at all and also don't need to? When I got to the loo only a trickle comes out.

It feels exactly like when I have a tampon in, except I don't. I got worried I somehow forgot to remove it but I checked and there is 100% nothing in there.

What's happening?

Have a big glass and water and then if you still can’t wee you will need to go to A and E.

Is it possible you're still dehydrated and you don't actually need to pee? Occasionally I know I haven't drank much at all as I realise I haven't been to the loo for hours!

It’s acting as a pessary, which is how they treat urinary incontinence

I'd probably have more than 1 glass of water to need to pee, especially if a bit dehydrated.

Might also be worth trying to get a phone apt with gp today if you still don't pee because if you need to go to a&e they could book you in / forewarn them of your arrival which shortens waiting time

Thank you. It was really weird not needing to pee when waking up but yes maybe it was because I was more dehydrated than I thought.

I've had a glass of water, a cup of roobois and a coffee since this morning and still nothing.

I guess I'd be even more worried if I needed to pee and couldn't pee, but I just don't even need to at all??? So I'm not uncomfortable in any way, it's just odd.

I'll give it another hour and another few glasses of water and see.

I got a bit of a bruised bladder during my csection and had to be sent home with a catheter for a week so I get super stressed about any pee issues!

I have since never taken for granted being able to pee without issues!

It's possible you have a bladder infection. In any case, make sure you see someone medical soon. If it is an infection then a course of anti-biotics will clear this up very quickly.

If you were out and about with no access to a loo and you were dehydrated, it's possible you might have a UTI.

Also, if you were dehydrated, your body might just be making use of every bit of liquid you consume right now and you're not weeing for that reason. If I sweat a lot for exercise or heavy gardening work or something in warm weather, I can drink gallons of water and not need a wee all day.

Not peeing is a bog emergency as your bladder can fill up and burst. Not feeling like you need to pee is a part of the problem. Please go to A and E and get checked. You have a history of bladder trauma which makes a problem even more likely

CheeseAndHamToastieAndCrisps · 14/04/2025 14:55

You could just be a bit dry still, drink more and see what happens.

WickWood · 14/04/2025 15:16

I'd definitely get checked out, always better to be safe than sorry! X

You need a bladder scan so you need to go to hospital.
