Would you let 13 year old dd wear

A t shirt that said ‘I love shoes, booze and boys with tattoos’ ?

She bought it on Vinted and I’ve said it has to be a pyjama top. She thinks I’m being mean and that it’s just a joke.

Nope.........but I don't have a 13 year old daughter so maybe I'm out of touch!

Cruisinforcroissant · 11/04/2025 22:02

Nope it my first reaction but saying that clothes are not a hill im going to die on - so would have a chat with them maybe.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 11/04/2025 22:02

Not out of the house

I’d just explain that, apart from being far too young to love booze, people will know she is too young and thus she will appear try hard and may find people laughing at her and who wants that

Pyjamatimenow · 11/04/2025 22:06

Nope. Wouldn’t fly here.

Janedoe82 · 11/04/2025 22:08

I would but I am super laid back with my children as to be honest I don’t really care what other people think 🙈
I have a child the same age and she would just look like a child in a stupid T shirt.

TappyGilmore · 11/04/2025 22:08

No, there are many debates in this house about what will and won’t be worn outside of the house, and that would definitely be a no.

Springhassprungxx · 11/04/2025 22:09

No - not appropriate

excelledyourself · 11/04/2025 22:12

Nope

pictoosh · 11/04/2025 22:16

No...she's 13.

Ddakji · 11/04/2025 22:20

How is she buying stuff on Vinted without your say-so? I’d stop that first. But no, I wouldn’t allow that.

gillefc82 · 11/04/2025 22:25

Where would she plan to wear it? I remember late 90s/early 00s, having just turned 18, I wore a black tank top out and about a few times that said “When I’m good, I’m very good” on the front in baby pink lettering and “But when I’m bad, I’m better” in red lettering on the back.

Wearing it with jeans on a night out round town with friends it resulted in non stop hassle from lads - lots of men making pointed comments and being very over familiar / touchy feely. In comparison,I wore it one day time to run a quick errand (I think to the bank) and the only interaction was with one builder/tradesman , part of a bigger group walking past me, who asked me to turnaround so he could read both sides properly and then just chucked, no inappropriate behaviour at all.

I don’t think there’s anything with the wording of your DD’s top per se but based purely on my experience, my reaction would be based on where she planned to wear it and who she would be with before deciding if it was ok or not.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 11/04/2025 22:28

Not a chance.

It's not about caring what other people think. It's about the attitudes you are encouraging in your own child.

Pigeonqueen · 11/04/2025 22:29

Nope. It would be a pj top and even then I think it would have to miraculously disappear. Awful. (I have a 13 year old).

Youagain2025 · 11/04/2025 22:30

I asked dd 14 she said no not suitable . I agree just let her wear it to bed

The difference is being 18 vs 13 though.
I'd have no problem with the DDs top at 18, but absolutely not appropriate at 13

ThatPearlPanda · 11/04/2025 22:32

It’d soon find itself accidentally washed either with bleach or in very hot water. Funny that.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 11/04/2025 22:34

I wouldn’t have let her buy it in the first place, and I wasn’t particularly uptight about clothes. I’d be more worried about her unfettered access to Vinted and the internet in general at 13.

Franjipanl8r · 11/04/2025 22:34

No, but then I wouldn’t let my children buy their own clothes online anyway. 13 year olds need supervision buying stuff, otherwise they waste money on crap.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/04/2025 22:36

Put it away till she’s old enough to drink, then give it back to her - she’ll probably cringe at it when she’s 18.

GettingMySpringOn · 11/04/2025 22:41

Nope. And we're quite chilled

So in all honesty, I never looked my age growing up and maybe I’m being more than naive. I don’t disagree that at least I was an adult so could make my own decision on clothing, even if those ‘reacting’ to it may not have been doing so knowing/thinking I was an adult (horrific in hindsight). Hence why I think the where and who with is key. If it’s round to a friend’s house during daytime it may be ok but in other situations not so much.

PonyPatter44 · 11/04/2025 22:42

No.

Not out of the house,anyway.

CoconutSky · 11/04/2025 22:43

I don’t know if I would now. I think these slogan tops are back in, I remember wearing them as a teenager in 2009.

They don’t seem right anymore. I used to have one that said “Good Girl Gone Bad” on it. I was about 12. I think given the times these t shirts have had their day now, however all the Y2K clothing is back in so maybe I’m in the minority

Ladyluckinred · 11/04/2025 22:43

Yeah, I’d let her wear it out of the house

but I’d buy the same top and she could only wear it when we are matching!
