Would you let 13 year old dd wear

A t shirt that said ‘I love shoes, booze and boys with tattoos’ ?

She bought it on Vinted and I’ve said it has to be a pyjama top. She thinks I’m being mean and that it’s just a joke.

Fuck no.

FidosMum84 · 11/04/2025 22:46

Not a chance.

Listofmedications · 11/04/2025 22:47

I’d also say it can be a PJ top at home and not at sleepovers either. I’d have to wonder if it really was a joke, some of my daughters friends of a similar age are sadly already drinking so they’d probably be wearing it with some meaning (while telling parents it’s a joke). Yes, the drinking 13/14 year old friends could be the topic of another thread

I think you could be forgiven years ago for just wearing it because we really weren’t having such open conversations about misogyny and attitudes towards women and girls.

Fashion is a funny one, I remember being younger and my mum saying stuff had come back into fashion that she had worn when she was younger and I couldn’t get my head around why she didn’t want to wear it again yet now I’m in the same boat!

BelfastBard · 11/04/2025 22:47

Hell no. Firstly, because it’s completely trashy but secondly, because it’s wildly inappropriate at her age.

Cece92 · 11/04/2025 22:48

No I wouldn’t xx

MaybeItWasMe · 11/04/2025 22:49

No way. Another one asking why she’s got unfiltered access to Vinted at 13.

Catsandcannedbeans · 11/04/2025 22:52

Not out the house no. But if I saw a kid in that top I’d probably have a giggle to myself.

Hoppinggreen · 11/04/2025 22:56

It would be a nope from me

Maraa · 11/04/2025 22:58

she will cringe about it in future years. I cringe at myself when I remember buying pants from topshop many years ago. I think they were 3 for a tenner or something like that. Sweet innocent 13/14 year old me bought some bright pink pants saying come and have a go if you think your hard enough….. I thought amazing, love the attitude. Only now i realise lol! My poor mum washing them, they did go missing coming to think of it

Crazyworldmum · 11/04/2025 22:58

No

Not a chance.

I would but I am super laid back with my children as to be honest I don’t really care what other people think 🙈

It's not about caring what other people think. It's about the attitudes you are encouraging in your own child.

What attitudes would that be?
if you think alcoholism is formed by wearing a stupid t shirt at 13 you are deranged.

pictoosh · 11/04/2025 23:02

"Sweet innocent 13/14 year old me bought some bright pink pants saying come and have a go if you think your hard enough….. I thought amazing, love the attitude."

😆

That is CUTE. Omg those knickers though?!

Stravaig · 11/04/2025 23:09

I wouldn't let her keep it at all, she'll be sneaking it out of the house and changing into it behind your back any day now.

CoconutSky · 11/04/2025 23:10

It’s a shame that society has gone the way it has that a silly daft t shirt has to be taken seriously like this. ☹️

I miss the old days where I could freely wear my “$LUT” t shirts in peace

Backagainformorepunishment · 11/04/2025 23:14

A lot of adult women these days seem to have no sense of style, or quality, or taste when it comes to clothes.
So it's hardly surprising teenagers are joining the race to the bottom when it comes to their choice of clothing.
No I wouldn't want any daughter of mine to wear a tee shirt like that, and particularly if she was 13.
Even if she is trying to be rebellious why sink to that level?

Eenameenadeeka · 11/04/2025 23:16

No I wouldn't be ok with it either

Society hasn't changed. We just know that far too many men will see this as an open door policy to treat her as a sexual being. Despite being a child.
This hasn't changed. They were equally misogynistic and perverted back in the day but we talk about it more now.

CoconutSky · 11/04/2025 23:22

I agree. That’s why I think t shirts like this have had their day now!

I often miss the unseriousness of my teenage years but I’m proud to think of the young girls nowadays who rightfully call out these perverts and misogynysts

OMG I had the same pants and cringe so much 😂

PLHJ84 · 11/04/2025 23:47

No but i wouldn’t let my 13 year old lose on vinted either

Pandimoanymum · 12/04/2025 00:37

No, not at her age, and it's trashy.

Tittibits · 12/04/2025 01:11

No.

Odras · 12/04/2025 01:24

It would be a no from me and I hate getting involved in a clothes debate with my 12 year old because I do feel she should be able to wear what she wants (within reason and this one isn’t reasonable)

Differentstarts · 12/04/2025 01:34

I'm normally quite laid back when it comes to clothes but this would make her look stupid at her age
