Morrisons - piss taking bastards

I was in Morrisons earlier for just a few things. When I put them through the self checkout I noticed that the price was wrong for three items so I pressed the button for assistance. The assistant first said that the shelf price I saw was only for more card holders, but I informed her that this wasn't the case, that instead the actual regular shelf tickets were different. So she then said that if I went to the shelves in question, photographed the tickets and came back to the checkout with them, she would put them through for the price on my photos. I decided not to do this and just asked her to clear them from my shop.

But, it's taking the piss isn't it? Not her - she's just doing her job and I get that she can't leave the self checkout area. But the policy in general is taking the piss. For one, they need to be keeping their shelf tickets up to date. For two, when there's a discrepancy they need to have a proper procedure in place for resolving it. Customers already have to find their own stuff, scan their own stuff, pack their own stuff, bring their own bags - now we have to go take photos of shelf tickets as we go, too? It's all bullshit.

You know how supermarkets work right?

She offered you a solution, you decided not to take it. Stop whining. Shop elsewhere in future

Ladies and gentlemen, the CEO of Morrisons

The amount of time I’ve heard this and when we go back and check the customer has got it wrong. If she had gone back and checked would you have believed her if she told you that you were wrong?

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 10/04/2025 19:00

‘Sorry, but I don’t work here’. Supermarkets bumping up prices and saving on paying a workforce. I once abandoned a whole trolley full at Sainsbury’s because they refused to open a manned check out and wanted me to scan it. They only had basket self service at the time and no scanners. I walked out and left it, bloody wasting my time.
Before anyone says it, I used to work for Sainsbury’s moons ago.

She didn't go back and check. Nobody checked. That's my issue - there's literally nothing in place to deal with such queries. What I would have done with the information is a moot point; it wasn't available at all.

She should have got a colleague to go and check.

xanthomelana · 10/04/2025 19:11

Email and complain. She’s not allowed to leave the self service area and probably didn’t have anyone to call but it’s a cost cutting problem that stems from head office not the minimum wage staff. Things will never change if people don’t speak up and tell the overpaid CEO’s that they are creating a bad shopping experience.

HeySugarSugar · 10/04/2025 19:11

I’m impressed you remembered the prices for 3 of your items 😳

Yes because she could have taken a photo. At our local Morrisons they look or go back with you to look. I agree with OP customers will be stacking the blooming shelves next.

That's a management issue though

You obviously understand, she can't leave the area

Complain to Morrisons by all means but complain about the lack of staff. Because these places are making huge profits and paying the seniors a huge amount of money but they are not keeping enough staff on the supermarket floor and it causes stress for all of those staff as well as customers.

Eggsboxedandmelting · 10/04/2025 19:13

Ime they are the worst supermarket for wrongly priced items..

I actually got a parking fine it took so long to sort out my basket of reduced items. I did get the fine cancelled eventually.. Glad I had paid on my card to prove how long I was really in there...

Did she have one to ask though?

She can’t leave the self service area plus she’s not allowed her phone on the shop floor so she couldn’t have taken a photo. The only supermarket that lets staff have their phones is Tesco because they have an app to check stock levels for customers.

Are you particularly hard of remembering? How is that impressive 😁

I could tell you pretty much the price of everything in my weekly shop

I have limited mobility, no way am I using up energy I don’t have, never have here isse In Lidl

"She's not allowed to leave the self service area....."

Really? How come in our Morrisons you can stand at the self service checkouts for five minutes with the silly little red light on top flashing away (on your till and several others doing the same), and not a staff member anywhere in sight?

Thoughtsonstuff · 10/04/2025 19:21

Legally a supermarket is required to sell at the price marked on the shelf. So why the member of staff was trying to get the OP to do what's left of her job for her is beyond me (bearing in mind the OP is having to do all of the scanning till work too).

Because they don’t have hours so usually the runner or kiosk staff will be expected to do both jobs. They don’t like it either but what can they do about it?

Yeah exactly. Morrisons are making plenty of money. And they are forever coming up with elaborate processes that suit them - self scan, gates operated by receipts etc - but are unable to create processes to answer what should be simple queries. I mean, "how much does this cost?" is the most basic query that a customer in a shop can have. But they haven't, in their multiple layers of technology, monitoring etc, found a way to answer it. It's abysmal.

Last time this happened to me in Morrisons they gave me the option of leaving it or purchasing it at the price it scanned at and then going to customer services who would go and check. If the price was wrong they would refund the difference. If the price was right and I no longer wanted it at that price they would have refunded

Wrong. They don’t have to but most supermarkets will honour it.

CoralOP · 10/04/2025 19:23

Omg i went to Morrisons recently and 3 things were wrong on my receipt too!

I went to customer services, I was very nice and friendly to her and she was a complete knob about it, huffing and puffing that she had to fix it.

I had went back and checked the items and took photos (not to be a dick, just to save her having to look around the shop) and she said I could of took them anytime so had to have someone go and check. I have a habit of checking my receipt now, you would be surprised how often things are wrong. Our local home bargains double scan things all the time.

Yes I used to work for Sainsbury's a long time ago. So I'm conditioned to shop there and like a lot of their products.

But I get really annoyed by things such as them purposely stocking gaps with the wrong produce, wrong price tickets, poor customer service etc etc. Because having gone through the staff training I'm very aware of how things should be done and I get very irritated.

Misleading price advertising.
