Hello lovely mum's of England,
My son (18) is coming to University in September (Portsmouth) and although will be an international student (we live in Australia), he wants to fit in as a local student.
Would love some advice on what English young men are wearing to Uni these days - here we just live in shorts & t-shirts most of the year......

Jeans and a t-shirt.

My son wears a lot of vintage clothes. And loves corduroy trousers. I see a lot of doctor martens, air force one nikes. Jeans and jumpers. Nights out are a lot of garish vintage shirts.

Urban outfitters are a good place to look. And H&M.

Make sure he has a decent coat and gloves and a scarf. They are at uni all winter!

Have him look on TikTok with the Portsmouth Uni hash tag. This is what my DD did last year before starting ti find out what girls were wearing, what bag was the ‘in’ bag to have.

Why try to fit in, is uni not the perfect time to find your style? Maybe bring minimal clothes over and buy more once here. They might love vintage or smart or sporty.

I would just kit him out with the basics and some cash to go shopping when he gets here. It will probably be a bonding activity for him and his new friends.

Students wear any kind of clothing.

Even if you are living in Melbourne now he will be cold here so he’s better buying appropriate clothes here. It’s also cheaper here.
