Please help - I need zero-vegetable meals

I am not-quite-vegetarian normally. I eat poultry & fish (no mammals) but DH is fully vegetarian and 95% of the time I eat veggie. When I do eat meat it's limited to eg a scattering of prawns on a veg pizza or adding some chicken into some leftover veggie tagine when there wasn't a full serving leftover.

I have a medical procedure next week in preparation for which I have to eat absolutely nothing that contains fibre for 3 days. Pretty much no veg at all except no-fibre carb things eg skinless potatoes and white rice etc. I can have chicken, fish, cheese, white carbs etc but I have no idea of anything I can do with this other than a bland and flavourless lump of protien on bland and flavourless carb - everything I can think of that gives flavour and depth is on the "not allowed" list. I would love to have some fish with a yummy salsa verde of other veg sauce but I can't. I can have Fish&Chips one night and that will be nice but I have 2 other dinners and 3 lunches to come up with

  • any suggestions?

Cheesy mashed potato with cold chicken on the side
Tin of cream of chicken soup with bread

Wheat is packed with fibre, avoid it!!

Look up carnivore diet recipes. There’s tons of them.

ScaryM0nster · 09/04/2025 18:54

Roast!

Meat, roast tatties and Yorkshire pudding.

Biriyani.

Steak and chips.

Gammon and egg.

Croque Madame.

It is difficult, but it's only for a few days. Use the bland white carbs as the bulk, but cheese, chicken, fish and eggs for the protein. If you use smoked cheese or fish that is another kind of flavour.

I am on a low residue diet, so any fruit or veg I have has to be skinless and very well cooked, and as low fibre as possible. Stewed apples are possible, and bananas, for me.

vincettenoir · 09/04/2025 18:56

Cheese toasties, omelette, jacket and cottage cheese, eggs and soldiers. Good luck with the procedure.

Redheadedstepchild · 09/04/2025 18:57

I really fancy an omelette Arnold Bennett now. Smoked haddock, cheese and egg.

You cant have bread on those diets

OP is this to prepare for colonscopy type of thing, where you have to take that awful prep?

soupyspoon · 09/04/2025 19:00

To be honest OP I sort of gave up eating for a couple of days. There was nothing I fancied.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 09/04/2025 19:01

Toad in the hole
margarita pizza

borisjohnsonsforgottencondom · 09/04/2025 19:01

This is basically my diet as I don’t like cheese, bread, potatoes or most vegetables.

garlic chicken with Olives (not sure if olives are high fibre)
lamb with pomegranate onions
beef with onions and gravy
Mediterranean chicken with courgettes
pesto chicken and bacon - DH stuffs with cheese
chorizo in chopped tomatoes with chilli

DH will have all these meals with pasta/bread/mash - I just have double meat.

Good luck with the procedure OP!

She wouldnt be able to eat most of that, you've mentioned onions, tomatoes, courgettes etc

Or she could have just the meat

Chewbecca · 09/04/2025 19:04

If you are having a colonoscopy, don't have onions, or even fish and chips - too fatty.
I didn't eat proper meals, I grazed mostly. I roasted a chicken and had roast chicken sandwiches (white bread), had some with some pasta and grated cheese. And a jelly (not red).
Just get through it! All the best.

soupyspoon · 09/04/2025 19:09

I wasnt allowed bread on mine and I dont eat pasta. I think I had the odd bit of potato, cheese and not much else. Tea.

And the surgeon found a bit of mushroom in my colon too! He laughed.

Nevergotdivorced · 09/04/2025 19:09

Risotto, fried chicken,omelette, steak.

Oh, hot damn. No bread so I suppose no wheat/gluten either.
Rice noodles?

I think the main thing is that OP is pretty much vegetarian. She likes a tiny bit of chicken and can stomach some prawns. The egg debate is ongoing.

Chicken/prawn veg free fried rice if the gluten content of the soy sauce won't be completely fatal?

ErrolTheDragon · 09/04/2025 19:15

Maybe something like grilled plaice with some very cheesy cheese sauce?

Jellybott · 09/04/2025 19:17

Carbonara
Prawn or chicken satay noodles

TheDandyLion · 09/04/2025 19:20

Omelettes, yoghurt, ramen without the veg, peanut butter, grilled hallomi, chicken sausages, chicken drumsticks. miso soup, boil in the bag white fish and butter sauce.

LLinLondon · 09/04/2025 19:21

I had to do this a couple of weeks back.

I bought some plain white bagels. I had them for various meals with poached egg, smoked salmon and cream cheese, and cottage cheese.

I also bought some white udon noodles and had them one night with roast chicken, the next night with grilled salmon, then the left over chicken with mashed potato on my final night.

I got some fancy M&S shortbread and some nice herbal tea for a treat.

I got 9/9 for my colonoscopy prep (they scored it as part of the procedure) so it worked!

Hope your procedure goes okay.

Jellybott · 09/04/2025 19:22

Turkish eggs
Ham and cheese omelette
Salmon with dauphinoise potatoes

JazzyBBBG · 09/04/2025 19:24

Eat like a toddler minus the grapes you'll be fine. White carbs - the stuff of dreams!

I'd really want some kind of tomato with that though. A bit of acid to cut it a bit. Would a teensy tiny bit of ketchup derail everything?

Or, at a pinch, Washyoursister Worcester Worcestershire

Lee and Perrins?
