Was one of my fondest childhood memories all a bit weird?

Or normal and harmless for the time?

C. 1984, I was 14yo. We visited GPs for Christmas. GM asked me to go and post Christmas cards for the neighbours before dinner. So off I went...

One of the neighbours, was a retired headteacher and loved young people. He saw me coming up the path and insisted I went in for a drink and a snack. He gave me his homemade rhubarb wine.

It can't have been a lot because I wasn't used to drinking at all, but it was enough to make me a lttle tipsy. I had a fun afternoon. Nothing terrible happened, far from it we just chatted, he showed lots of interest in my school and exams choices, future career ambitions etc. I remember the afternoon fondly.

When I eventually got back, very late for dinner (lunch), all the adults found it hilarious, they'd guessed what must have happened and weren't at all worried that I was so late, or slightly drunk!

As I say, I remember it fondly, but...?

It happened, you enjoyed yourself and have good memories. Things were a lot more relaxed in the 80s.

This is true, we used to go to the pub with our teachers in 6th form.

I wouldn't overthink it too much OP.
