For me its a Sweater Shop jumper which was bought in one of the factory sales TSS used to have in the mid 90s. It's very thick and baggy which only wear if unwell or freezing cold outside.

It must be 30 years old.

A plain blue M&S beach cover up bought in 1980. I still wear it as an overshirt.

A slightly pink cotton mesh black top from 1983

I’ve tons of old band T-shirts from the 90s that I’ll still wear. I had a Nirvana T-shirt from 1991 on just yesterday. Somehow it looks better for being a bit weathered.

Thinking about it, I also have a 1940s or 50s black dress and jacket which I bought in 1981/2.

A stripy thermal long sleeved top purchased in NZ in 1992 as friend and I decided to go skiing for the day, merino wool so in good nick and just about still fits me.

A Burberry Trench bought in 1984. It doesn't seem quite right even though they are back.

Over the past couple of months my parents have gone through all of their photos which they put into the loft when moved in 2012 and not touched them since.

My DM saw photos of DF with jumpers he wore in 87 and still has. Even though the wool has stretched, holes in elbows. She binned them

A wrangler denim jacket that must be 30 years old. It was in the loft for years but I resurrected it a couple of years ago.
I also have a couple of coats of my mum's which must be from the 70s that I used to wear a lot.

An ‘and finally’ topshop oversized nirvana tshirt I’ve probably had 10+

I have an M&S slip that you wear under skirts. I’m 60 and bought it when I was 20 to wear under a work skirt. It’s so old that it has the “St Michael” label in it….proper vintage!

Gliblet · 10/04/2025 09:23

A massive chenille jumper i bought while I was a student nearly 30 years ago.

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 10/04/2025 10:13

Pair of leather trousers my mum bought me for my 20th birthday. I’m 46.

ShowOfHands · 10/04/2025 10:16

Currently wearing a t-shirt my mum bought for me when I was 14. That was 30yrs ago. I've got shoes which are at least 25yrs old (Doc Martens) and various coats and hats I've had for at least 20yrs. I also have a couple of dresses my Mum wore in the 70s and I still wear them.

Oh your post reminded me. I have my Grandma's slips. She made them herself when she was first married, so 75yrs old. They're surprisingly handy!

tarheelbaby · 10/04/2025 10:21

40 yrs - my very first silk scarf
30 yrs - a J Crew dress; it's basic black and made of cotton knit.
I have lots of other things which are easily at the 20+ mark. I have classic tastes and buy good quality, usually natural fibers. Most were on sale.

quirkychick · 10/04/2025 12:07

I think this thread shows how well made clothes were in the past. I have just remembered, I have a silk nightgown of my great-aunt's that she sewed and embroidered. I think it's 20s or 30s. I have worn it as fancy dress, but it's a bit long and very delicate, so not something I would wear often!

IjustbelieveinMe · 10/04/2025 13:31

I have a Keith Haring 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival jumper which I have had since I was 13. He designed the merchandise for the festival that year. I am 52 and still wear it walking the dog.

Runnersandtoms · 10/04/2025 13:36

I've still got a puffy warm coat I bought to go to Russia in 1998. In fact my daughter has appropriated it and wore it a lot last winter. Also still have the thick hat and scarf I bought to wear with it which I wear when it snows.

Also I have hiking socks from my D of E expedition 30 years ago which still have my (maiden) name tags sewn in. I still wear them when I have to stand around in the cold, and also lent them to dd when she dud her D of E expedition two years ago!

PaintDecisions · 10/04/2025 13:41

University sports hoodie 😂

It's 25 years old.

Anything I owned before that was seriously cheap stuff so it didn't last. Add in ten or so house moves plus weight gain of at least 6 dress sizes and not much has survived from the 90s.

Actually, I do have a leather jacket which is from 1998 but I'm too fat to wear that these days. Hopefully soon though!

Mothership4two · 10/04/2025 13:41

A short sleeved shirt (a blouse back in the day!) that is at least over 30 years old and may be going on for 40 as it was my Mum's first and she passed it on to me. It washes really well - I can/have washed it in a sink and dried it on a hanger on holiday and it was fine - and still looks newish. No wear or stains. It's casual, but could get away with it at a smart-casual event.

Mothership4two · 10/04/2025 13:44

Also have a pair of black velvet Laura Ashley shoes - low high heel but look smart. They are also probably getting on for 40 years old. I don't wear them a lot so they still look good. They are dressy but incredibly comfortable.

Sulu17 · 10/04/2025 13:47

Low rise cropped jeans I bought in Monsoon in Luton airport on the way to a holiday in 2010. They're just right for my body in terms of length and fit, I've paid a lot more for jeans over the years but none have fit me as well as these Monsoon ones. I still love wearing them on warmer days.
