For me its a Sweater Shop jumper which was bought in one of the factory sales TSS used to have in the mid 90s. It's very thick and baggy which only wear if unwell or freezing cold outside.

It must be 30 years old.

I have a jumper that is 26 years old, still washes well, a black jacket and skirt similar age, only worn going to funerals.

weirdwalking · 09/04/2025 16:43

1989 Wonder Stuff tour t-shirt. Mostly worn around the house!

A couple of jumpers from the 1980s, and a big home made cable knitted cardigan
I've got some shoes and boots from the 90s, and a couple of dresses.

Grin at a pp thinking something 12 years old was a longstanding piece of clothing.

Yes! The vast majority of my wardrobe is at least 12 years old! I have a short sleeved jumper that used to be my mothers in the 1960s, the sort that was one half of a twinset. I wear that occasionally. I have jumpers I knitted myself in the early 1990s still going strong.

Riversof0tter5 · 09/04/2025 16:44

My grandmother's scarf. No idea how old.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 09/04/2025 16:46

An ankle length loose but hangs nicely tee shirt dress that I bought from M&S 25 years ago as a holiday beach cover up, I still regularly use it for the beach, trips to the pool at home, casual day wear, It hasn't faded, snagged or changed in any way.

A black cardigan that I bought as a cover-up for a spaghetti strap dress about the same time, still wear that occasionally too.

I think the oldest might be a black velvet cowl neck top, also M&S, it's as good as new and is great for smart nights out in winter, probably getting on for 30 years old.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 09/04/2025 16:46

I have two satin nightshirts which I had at uni 25 years ago 😅😅😅
I also have a slash neck top from next in a size 10 which I bought 27 years ago but haven't fitted in for 15 years!

uncomfortablydumb60 · 09/04/2025 16:47

A pair of Ecco “ twist” ankle boots, which cost me £100 in 1992
i keep the leather conditioned and they come out every winter.

Oldest shoes are my DMs from 1994 and oldest item of clothing (that I regularly wear) is my Habitat towelling dressing gown with massive hood that I got for Christmas 1995 because at university, I had to walk outside through the quad to get to a shower and hated having to take my clothes with me and back (plus there was usually someone waiting grumbling at how long the person before them took). So 31 and 30 years!

I think I know that quad.

Hadalifeonce · 09/04/2025 16:49

I have a tee shirt from 1975, I only tend to wear it to sleep in.

RunningJo · 09/04/2025 16:49

I’ve got a Prince T shirt from 1988, which I don’t wear now to be fair.
I’ve got an outfit from a wedding I went to in 1999 (it’s actually quite an unusual outfit and I’d still wear it now)

MousePolice · 09/04/2025 16:54

My DH has a GAP tshirt from 1994 that he still wears.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/04/2025 16:55

A denim jacket from Miss Selfridge from 1994. It had "growing room"... I didn't realise that I'd just stopped growing.

It's great in this sunny, fresh weather when you just want to keep the breeze off so hasn't been worn heavily but is reliably used each year.

quirkychick · 09/04/2025 16:56

A black, zip up cardigan from an early Debenhams designer collab in the 90s, it's an easy layer under a jacket and good as new - which I wear loads. I have a few other clothes from the 90s and a Viyella velvet jacket of my mum's which might be 70s or 80s.

SabreIsMyFave · 09/04/2025 16:58

A jumper/sweater in red that I got from C & A in 1986. Nearly 40 years old it is, and it looks as good as the day I bought it. Wouldn't get that now. Things turn to shit sooner as the quality is not there anymore.

I have some other bits from the 1990s that I wear now and again that are still going strong (t-shirts and cardigans!)

I also have a dress that I was wearing when I met DH (late 1980s.) It's a size 12. Yet my size 8 DD can only just get into it. Proving that vanity sizing is a thing. 1980s size 12 is 2020s size 8.

BananaSpanner · 09/04/2025 17:02

A summery skirt that was cheap from TK Maxx over 20 years ago. It dresses up with heels or down with flip flops and I managed to wear it during pregnancy by just not zipping it up and covering up the open zip. Such good value for money.

oakley2010 · 09/04/2025 17:30

a warehouse top that i brought when i was 17 ish, sort of smock style. still wear it, pain to iron so that’s probably why its still so good as not many wears per year. i am now 51 🤣

shipinfullsail · 09/04/2025 18:15

A cashmere sweater that my mother bought in the late 70s. Still perfect (always washed in cold water, don’t know if that matters).

Anyminute · 09/04/2025 18:18

A grey wool coat and a North Face fleece, both 30 years old.

Ntsurewht · 09/04/2025 18:21

I got a t shirt from 1986, my Nan brought it to me from holiday.

Useruseruser01 · 09/04/2025 18:27

I still have a pair of Diesel low rise bootcut jeans from around 2000. They still fit (just!) and are cool again now - although I’ve worn them to death in and out of fashion fads. They’re properly frayed and falling apart at the heel edge now 😆
DD12’s best friend recently told me how much she loves them and I was like “thanks, they’re twice as old as you!”

cakeandteaandcake · 09/04/2025 18:29

A top I bought on our honeymoon 13 years ago.

I have Nirvana and Hole t-shirts from the 1990s, but I don’t wear them as I don’t want them to get damaged.

purplecorkheart · 09/04/2025 18:31

A couple of tops I bought for my summer job in an office after my first year in University. They were from Principles and felt really grown up. Love them now, they wash well, dry fast, don't need to be ironed and work well under suits, but equally good on their own. Bought them in the sale and have more than got my moneys worth. They are 25 years old.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/04/2025 18:32

I have a beautiful black velvet swing coat I bought cheaply from a catalogue (because I was very very poor) 40 years ago. I was at least 3 sizes smaller then but it still fits - it's a great cut and makes me feel special every time I wear it.

Basketslipper · 09/04/2025 18:33

I have jeans I bought in 6th form, c. 1986, which I still wear for gardening. It's a shame I ruined them becuase they fit beautifully, are far better quality than anything you can buy now and would be right on trend now 🤣

OhMyGiddyAunt · 09/04/2025 18:34

A dark grey zip-up hooded cardigan that's 25 years old.

It's amazing as it's been worn constantly yet it's never gone bobbly and, other than where it's staring to wear out on the cuffs and in one place by the zip, it looks like new. It tends to be my go-to comfy warm layer around the house these days.

I've no idea what it's kitted from but clothing manufacturers could learn a thing or two from it as I find things start going bobbly on the first wear these days.
