I found a shopping list

Found in a shopping basket at a Tesco Extra in South London. I'm assuming male, based on not very much at all.

So far I think I have deciphered:
Chicken
2 spuds
???
Bacon
Bangers?
Yorkies?
Mix veg steam?

Any other shopping list enthusiasts that care to make a guess?

Thankfully, I can make any lists I need on my phone.

For around 50 years, I have had my writing remarked on about how neat it is, how lovely it is, how much I can fit on a postcard🤣🤣
Blah blah blah

As per my username, I had two strokes earlier in the year and now my writing is terrible. I have no feeling in my right hand, so the control isn't great. I too live alone.

@Paganpentacle The Mumsnet finding shopping list end trying to decipher it, discuss what the writer has written what they might be cooking, et cetera has never really been of interest to me, but it's mainly a fairly harmless past time for some.

Possibly is a little mean when it's obviously an older person who may not have had the best education or maybe has just lost the ability to write neatly as they have got older, lots of things affect your fine motor skills.

But in reality, there's next to no chance of the person who left the list in the trolley finding a thread on Mumsnet discussing it.

Hopefully the person with the shopping list has enjoyed their meal!! it does sound like a chicken roast to me and that they're having Yorkshire puddings. I'm vegetarian so you can keep the chicken, but I do love a Yorkshire pudding!!

I’m going with: Chicken, Bacon, cauliflower Cheese, bakery yorkies, steamed veg

I love the use of the word spuds! It's such a good word

Auburngal · 09/04/2025 15:31

My ex wrote like that. So I can usually decipher writing like that.

Cali cheese? Cauliflower cheese

It just an old Mumsnet game. You're just supposed to chat about it, decipher handwriting and think about what they could be making and the writers life. Increasingly rare because I think most people just write their shopping lists on their phone now.

Edited

I always do my lists on paper and leave them in trolleys/baskets for others to find. I've never seen one crop up on MN but I live in hope.

If you go on the FB group Other peoples shopping lists https://www.facebook.com/groups/163117410518839 and search your town name, you may see someone may have uploaded an old list of yours.

TheShiningCarpet · 09/04/2025 15:40

I see cauliflower too

RandomWordsThrownTogether · 09/04/2025 15:46

Sliced Pan?

NancyBellaDonna · 09/04/2025 16:07

Pan fry Yorkies ?

Mixed vegs can

unsync · 09/04/2025 16:25

Sliced peaches. This is how my neighbour who has MS writes.

mugginsoverhere · 09/04/2025 16:28

I think that’s a very elderly shaky hand persons writing.

kittykatrawks · 09/04/2025 16:30

Cauliflower

This 😞
Are we supposed to laugh at it? What's the point of deciphering it? What does it matter?

It’s fun, better than Connections. I don’t feel it’s mean spirited, I fully expect one of my lists to turn up here one day and I also won’t know what it says

LadyGrillingSole · 09/04/2025 16:34

I write in a similar way when my MS is being bastardly 🙁

I do love looking at other lists and imagine what they're going to cook, though 🙂

Beepbeepoutoftheway · 09/04/2025 16:42

I'd say it's chilli rather than chicken

HowDoYouSpellThat · 09/04/2025 16:50

I'm surprised that some commenters thought I was poking fun/laughing at whoever wrote the list... this was absolutely not my intention in posting!

I find what people buy, and also people's handwriting, interesting and I had also seen similar shopping list posts before on MN. I obviously assumed it was someone elderly, or with limited hand mobility, but I posted without judgment. I'm sure my handwriting will look like this one day.

I still handwrite my shopping lists. I find it much easier to plan the weekly meals and kids food this way.
