There’s four houses on the close - and none for miles (converted country barns - hence the being so close together and yet nothing for miles).

Neighbour A has three cats and all are outdoor cats. Me and Neighbour B have dogs. Neighbour C is irrelevant to this pet debacle.

Neighbours A’s cats, since they moved in, have constantly shit in everyone’s garden. Don’t come at me and tell me it’s not them as the closest village is six miles and no one else has sodding cats!! They sit on the garage and hiss at anyone who goes by and are, quite frankly, obnoxious.

I’ve bitten my tongue but neighbour Cs and B have not. Neighbour B has taken much delight in having their dogs chase the cats off. Neighbour C has invested in barbed wire and other such things to keep the cats out

Yesterday, neighbour A knocked on my door and asked me to call my dogs in as they were ‘destroying her enjoyment of her garden.’ I was very polite - but very firm - and told her to fuck off (not quite that frank, but you get the idea). I’d just finished work, so the dogs had been inside with me so they’d been out about five minutes when she appeared. She launched into a a bit of a diatribe about how B and I have been ruining her summers for years now with our dogs barking and running around.

I snapped. Said her cats constantly shit in my garden and I had to pick it up as I had small children and that her fucking hot tub was obnoxiously loud, so was their music and their shitheaps of cars (her partner always has a rotation of them that he tinkers with) all over the driveway lowered the tone and created exhaust fumes, and that if I ever saw her cats in my garden again I’d be taking a leaf out of neighbour Bs book and setting my dogs on them. Then I told her not to come onto my property again and slammed the door in her face.

It’s a first world problem, I know. But I am just so fucking sick of biting my tongue and being a good neighbour )including taking her fucking parcels) and she has the bloody gall to tell me my dogs can’t be in the garden, as their playing ‘ruins her enjoyment.’

WHAT ABOUT MY FUCKING ENJOYMENT, DEBBIE?!?!

That’s it. That’s all I wanted (just a place to rant)

@DoddlesMcDoddle you must have a lot of time on your hands to reply to nearly every comment 🤭 I get I should have said their faeces can cause blindness, so shoot me 🤣
Below is a list of diseases that can be spread by cats.
Campylobacter infection
Cat scratch disease
Cat tapeworm
Cryptosporidiosis
Giardia infection
Hookworm
MRSA
Plague
Rabies
Ringworm
Roundworms
Salmonella infection
Sporotrichosis
Tickborne diseases
Toxoplasmosis
Tularemia
Sounds lovely eh!!!

I've hardly posted much on this thread at all, compared to others who have posted 9 times more than I have. Sorry you took offence that I corrected you.

Which disease is caused by dogs?

Viral infections such as rabies
and norovirus
and bacterial infections including Pasteurella
Salmonella
Brucella
Yersinia enterocolitica
Campylobacter
Capnocytophaga
Bordetella bronchiseptica
Coxiella burnetii
Leptospira
Staphylococcus intermedius
Methicillin resistance staphylococcus aureus are the most ...

As you said Sounds lovely eh!!! 😂

The argument that you can’t be concerned about the impact in the bird population by cats, Unless you are a vegan is a stupid one. I’m thinking that non vegans are eating chicken, beef whatever. You know. Animals bred to be eaten. They aren’t eating song birds.

Sorry but that won't fly (pardon the pun). An animal is an animal is an animal. It's 'purpose' is irrelevant.

DoddlesMcDoddle · 11/04/2025 07:47

Yes. Humans and human development - cars, roads, houses, loss of habitat - has the most influence. That poster said it was found cats were responsible for extinct birds in 40% of the cases. So what they didn't say, is that in 60% of the cases, cats had no involvement. That's a large majority. Humans are the biggest danger and blight on wildlife there is.

And any of these 'oh cats kill wildlife' people are full of shit and full of hypocrisy if they are not vegans themselves.

I think most readers would manage to deduce that if 40% was caused by cats then 60% weren't. It's not exactly complicated maths.

Also, 60%, while a majority, is not a large majority. Plus, that 60% is likely broken down to several different causes so it may well be that cats are the biggest contributors.

RossGellersCat · 11/04/2025 09:45

We live on a road where most of our neighbours have cats... So they all come and use our garden as a toilet. It stinks, goes onto our vegetables that we're growing and I am so fed up of having to clear it up nearly every day. The smell makes me feel instant rage. As a dog owner I have always picked up my dog's poo, it feels insulting that I also then spend time every day getting rid of other people's pets' poo as well.

And....with that said we would also not allow our dogs to stay outside if they were barking persistently as this is also annoying to others. (We adopt the same approach with our children so at least we're consistent. 😅)

As long as you keep your dogs vaccinated the majority, if not all, can be avoided
I'm sure @FinnalyCracked is a responsible dog owner as she was not the one letting her dogs chase the cats.
In all realities you are obviously a cat person who hates dogs.
I've had both over the years but prefer dogs as they are easier to control than cats.
You do you and I'll be me then it's a win win 😉

Same with cats. So that nullifies your hateful argument against cats.

Not at all. But your posts make it abundantly clear that you are obviously a dog person who hates cats.

ladybirdees · 11/04/2025 10:22

Are you sure it’s not fox poo? Cat poo isn’t generally obvious - they normally dig into a flower bed etc. They don’t really just poo on a lawn or path. I have cats, dogs and foxes in my garden and what annoys me is the fox poo!

Vynalbob · 11/04/2025 10:30

Cats are a problem in comparison to every other creature except humans. If they are a truly domesticated pet there's no harm in them being housecats. Could always have a run or catservatory.

UK perspective on murderous cats
(yes I know tiddles is cute but outdoors is a problem)

Sadly this is not true. Cats definitely poo in our garden I have seen them.

Kardamyli2 · 11/04/2025 10:36

You sound very entitled OP. Why do you and other entitled dog owners think it's OK to put dogs outside and let them bark? I've lost count of the number of times I've been disturbed by neighbours' dogs barking at all hours of the day and night - it's really obnoxious.

Nope. People are complaining about song bird populations being decimated and the impact on the eco system- which is an entirely different issue to the rights and wrongs of eating animals bred for consumption.

Not the same thing at all.

Dogs are a greater problem. They kill wildlife and toddlers/humans.

Very few, and usually due to humans either bad owners or banned breeds. But wildlife wise it's negligible and then often due to humans.

Obviously attacks on people are a problem but licensed & ban on fighting breeds would help.

I'm with you OP...hate the fact that people have cats and they go around crapping everywhere, but it's socially acceptable. Well I'd do everything in my power to deter them from my garden too.

As a non pet owner I hate having to remove poo from around my house.

Your dogs, your garden who cares if they're having a chat.

So you are another one that believes in doing unthinkable things to innocent animals!

I don't know if that's fake exaggeration used by cat haters! My females over the years have never killed a thing or shown an interest, my male did go in for catching mice birds when he was quite young but he's 6 now and hasn't brought anything in years!

Barking dogs drive me insane. Cat shit aside, I'm with your neighbour.

This. Your idyllic little foot houses in the middle of nowhere sounds like a fucking nightmare.

FlyMeSomewhere · 11/04/2025 11:48

Tread very carefully with threatening to get your dogs to rip somebody's cats apart! It's an evil and criminal act and it will patently obvious that you did it! You'll have a criminal record for horrific animal cruelty which will rightfully blight the rest of your life especially if it ends up in local media!

Your dogs may be seized because you taught them to be aggressive and dangerous! Not a clever thing to do especially if they rip another small dog or a child to bits!

Or if your neighbour is anywhere near as cruel to animals as you are admitting you want to be, they can easily sling some poison in your yard! Then your violence towards animals will really backfire!

Do you actually know me? 🤔 Nope, didn't think so. I don't hate cats and would certainly never harm one. If you read my reply to you properly you would have seen i have had cats in the past, at the same time as having dogs. Cats are extremely independent creatures and like to do their own thing. Dogs have a completely different character to cats and I find my dogs more enjoyable.
I also enjoy my garden being cat shit free due to the fact I'm extremely immuno-suppressed.
You prefer cats I prefer dogs, I suggest you move on with your trolling and stop being a 🤡 Have a lovely day and enjoy the sun 🫶

Not at all, not all cat owners ensure their cats are neutered, let alone vaccinated and flead/wormed on a regular basis.

I pick my dogs 💩 up, how many cat owners do?🤔🤔

I refuse to respond further, I'm going to enjoy my dogs and my garden so 👋👋

Wait - you're the one who accused me of "hating dogs" despite no post of mine suggesting I did.

So I gave it back to you. Don't give out assumptions if you can't take it back, and stop being a troll and 🤡. Do better and enjoy your day.
