I had my appendix out 2 weeks ago all went fine wounds nearly healed back to normal.

but since then i have a number patch of skin at the top of my thigh - its no where near any of the actual scars so i have no idea why this is. Is this a normal side effect of surgery ?? Its freaking me out!

it'll be a mildly bruised/damaged nerve that has some endings there. Might take a few months to recover!

I had to have injections over 10 minutes every 3 weeks into my thigh as part of my cancer treatment. The very first injection made the whole of my front thigh, from the groin to the knee, completely numb! I think the needle must have damaged a nerve. It took about 6 months to recover feeling in that area. There was no lasting damage but it was very odd. Nobody in the medical or nursing staff were concerned about it.

It can be, yes. It might have been something as simple as there was a clamp or some piece of equipment resting against that spot or how you were lying on the table.

It’s not quite the same, but I had knee surgery as a teen and the whole right side of my shin went numb after for about a year. Then maybe every 4 days or so I’d get this sensation of someone scratching their long nails down my shin. Really unpleasant and unnerving, but it eventually it went.

Mind - after the operation they said there had been an incident that my leg fell off the table and was dangling down - maybe that has upset the nerves! Hopefully it will clear up soon!
