Can I just have a moan about emails & notifications

I seem to spend a bit of time each day either silencing notifications or unsubscribing from from emails. Wondering if everyone else gets frustrated or if there is some big button I need to press.

The one that tipped me over the edge today was a second request to review a product. It was a bad impulse purchase, wasn't worth the money and took ages to get here but I don't want to review it in case they think I want to engage with them. Another email from the delivery company of said product asking for a review.

Then I tell YouTube that, once again, I don't need a push notification to know what's "trending" and I don't know what gave you the idea I was interested.

Then dismiss all the ring doorbell notifications and because the internet is so bad on my area these are mainly me, leaving the house an hour ago.

Then after all of this my poor attention seeking phone will just make something up. "Do you remember 4 years ago when you took a photo of the dog?" " What about last week when you tried to get a good photo of DD and instead got 8 sh*t ones? I've made a collage! Have a look!"

This is why the phone just goes away for hours at a time nowadays.

Just turn notifications off and keep unsubscribing to those pesky email

It sounds like you need to turn off notifications in a lot of places. I have been complaining that iPhone is way too complicated now, but basically your default must be set to getting notifications. I don't really get notifications for anything.

why is your phone making photo collages? Have you got one with AI built-in?

Monvelo · 07/04/2025 17:01

Oh yeah exactly the same. I'm consciously using my phone less and putting it out of reach and out of mind. Trying to set a good example for the kids. I've really noticed it's like it makes up a reason to ping when I've not touched it for a while - photo memories being a classic for this!

EmeraldRoulette · 07/04/2025 17:28

So for photo memories, go in

settings

photos

switch off "featured content"

job done.

@EmeraldRoulette thank you. Wasn't quite this on my phone but I found something to turn off!

Build in Artificial intelligence? Maybe, artificial boredom? Artificial faffery? Sometimes it takes on of my photos and "stylises" it for seemingly no reason, sometimes a get a slideshow or a collage. It's like its a child that wants me to stick in on the fridge 😂
@Monvelo yeah mine mainly just goes away no too!
