Storing propane for gas bbq

So we have treated ourselves to a gas bbq to make use of our new garden. BUT now im freaking out about the propane bottle. Apparently it shouldn't be stored in the garage. We don't have a shed. It seems it should be stored outside but not in direct sunlight. How does everyone store their propane?

I'm off the mains gas so I have 2 19kg gas bottles to power my stove. They just sit outside against the north facing wall in the back garden. They are totally waterproof and don't rust or anything

Propane doesn't freeze up as much as butane does, not that you'd probably be bbq in the winter anyway....
We have a butane cooker in the house an a propane one in the van. Both kept outside year round unprotected.

Google propane storage? Obviously fire is going to be dangerous but storage outside in all weathers doesn't affect it.

I did Google but just got either really expensive cages or people saying you can just leave outside while other sites said don't let them get wet or hot so I wondered what people actually do in real life.

We keep ours outside attached to the bbq. It's been that way for 11yrs. We've changed the bottle several times obvs!

We have a south facing garden 100% down south - the gas bottle has lived there 12 years in direct sunlight. Haven’t had a problem - must of changed them over 20 times never had an issue

Ilovelowry · 06/04/2025 21:04

Oh and as well as remaining attached to the bbq, we don't have a cover either.

Same - south facing gdn in the south East.

Thanks all. I'm probably overthinking but we have put behind the greenhouse for now but I'm thinking maybe it shouldn't be so close to the glass in case that makes it too hot?

Ah cross posted so maybe near my greenhouse in the North East won't be a problem.
