Started last week Saturday. Urine test showed UTI. Took antibioics. Its been a week now and I still have it. On Wednesday doctor said it could be the thrush. I used caneston the whole week and its still the same. Got prescribed fluconazole and still the same. I took that on Wednesday. Tried Canesten Pessary. Two times during the week and still nothing. Still the same. Hurts too pee. Doesn’t itch anymore. But really hurts when I pee. All over . Its just so painful. I will call gp tomorrow as they are open. Just wondering if anyone else has been through this and what worked.

Most likely your uti hasn't cleared. Was it 3 days of antibiotics? Because short courses like this are contributing to chronic utis. GPs shouldn't be going by lipsticks and cultures as they are notoriously u reliable. NHS guidance now is to treat symptoms but not all GPs are up to date with this.

Hi @Rugbornepippin thank you for the reply. It was a five day course. nitrofurantoin. Twice a day. I think you are right. It must be the uti then. Iv only had thrush once before and that cleared up so quickly with just the cream alone.

If you are menopausal it can be dryness and a pessary can help

Nitro isn’t a particularly good antibiotic if you have a very bad uti, you may need either trimethoprim or cefalexin for 7 days. Seek medical advice. (I have long term bladder issues, I’ve taken cefalexin for 30 years since I was 14 for complex utis and interstitial cystitis).

It could be that the UTI hasn't cleared or that you've been left with bladder and/or urethral inflammation. I'd speak to a doctor first to see if you need more antibiotics.

Like @Pigeonqueen I've had problems with UTIs and painful bladder/urethritis since I was a teenager and I take Cephalexin. Trimethoprim and Nitrofurantoin don't do anything for me.

@Pigeonqueen @JustLikeThatBluebird thanks for the replies. I will call tomorrow. 7 days of this! Really painful. I guess they will test urine again . I tried putting a bit of sudocream but nothing is working

Regardless of whether it's an infection or 'just' residual inflammation it's so painful and I really feel for you.

If it's an infection you'll need more antibiotics but in the meantime, what does help is a warm bath, hot water bottle and very gentle stretching of the pelvic muscles and inner thighs as being tense in that area will make the pain worse. When I have a bad bout I have a warm bath, then try to get comfortable in bed with a hot water bottle on my lower abdomen then sit with my knees flopped apart (like you're getting a smear test). Use pillows/cushions to support your knees in a comfortable position.

Make sure you're drinking plenty of water but if the pain is mostly during/after urination then don't go crazy with the amount. You want to be drinking enough to keep flushing out any bacteria but not so much that you're aggravating your bladder/urethra, which are both probably quite unhappy right now. And of course, do take painkillers. Personally, I found that sudocrem made any irritation worse so I would avoid that.

It's a first line antibiotic and there is now resistance to them. You'll need something stronger.

Not helpful regarding the infection but a warm bath may ease pain for a little while xx
