Going on a rare trip to Waitrose this afternoon, what’s going in my basket?

As in title, driving somewhere today that has a large Waitrose, haven’t been for years, also looking to cook a nice (posh but fairly simple) meal tonight. What should I pop in my basket.

I’m gutted about this too! It was so different from all the other generic chicken curries, I really miss it 😢

Oh that is tragic, it was the best ready meal ever.

Olive bread, from the bakery. Fresh fish, from the fish counter.

I got the olive bread for the first time last week after a long debate with myself whether it was worth the splurge or not, or to go for a bog standard baguette. It was definitely worth it.

Going down the rabbit hole here. Can anyone explain why this gorgeous sounding cheese would only have 20% fat in it? https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/isigny-ste-mere-raw-milk-camembert-cheese/716983-745321-745322

I think all Camembert is around 20% fat.

GellerYeller · 04/04/2025 23:36

Breaded spatchcock chicken with ginger.

Camembert is usually around 20-22% fat. It's the hard cheeses that are in the 30s.

Oh, that's good news. I had no idea they weren't higher than that.

The prawn cocktail - so good on a jacket potato. I’m no Waitrose snob - Aldi goer here - but I must admit it’s the best prawn cocktail of all the supermarkets. I consider myself a connoisseur 😂

hattie43 · 05/04/2025 06:53

Blueberry hot cross buns , the pistachio Easter egg , good luck with that one . The lemon and sultana danish are particularly good and Joe’s sourdough. I also just bought Charlie bighams fish pie whilst not officially Waitrose it was delicious

BobnLen · 05/04/2025 06:55

Double cream brie from the cheese counter
Double yolk eggs

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 05/04/2025 07:01

What did you buy @Theteenagerera ?

SocialEvent · 05/04/2025 07:06

Essentials white eggs
Krystal Manis Waitrose own (they make it to use for mass goreng but we put it in everything)
Essentials shower gels for £1 pink grapefruit
The rewilded brand sourdough and also flour (in bonkers bright green and pink paper packaging can’t miss it) responsibly farmed which is important
Waitrose own brand wines all great
decent animal welfare own brand meat and chicken and fish
20% off deals on the cheese, fish and meat counters on different days if you have a Waitrose card. It’s defo not a useless store card.

SocialEvent · 05/04/2025 07:33

KETSAP manis I mean

deeahgwitch · 05/04/2025 07:39

I too read threads about Booths and I don’t even live in the UK @70isalimitNotaTarget😀

FortyNineAndABit · 05/04/2025 07:41

I love the Ottolenghi range - the pomegranate & rose harissa is especially good.

I keep looking at these but not buying.

Am I missing out?

The orange ones are the best, in my opinion, but our local Waitrose were out of stock for several weeks, so we tried the plain ones and now we like them almost as much. They have anise seeds in them, so they have a mild aniseed taste.

DH and I keep saying we'll stop buying them because they're so addictive and we end up eating the packet in one go between us. But it seems to be impossible for us not to buy a packet (or two) every time we're in Waitrose.

The best thing you can probably do is NOT buy them, then you won't have to cope with the mental struggle. Just say no, @Theteenagerera.

(And yes, @JustSawJohnny, you are missing out (but see above).

It's just going to have to be done now, but yes, I fear I will have regrets (when I've eaten them all in 10 minutes).

2Magpies24 · 06/04/2025 09:16

I love the essentials chamomile body wash, it smells lovely and is cheap. Also, the essentials face wipes (can’t remember what flavour but green writing) very effective and refreshing.

BigDahliaFan · 04/04/2025 12:19

The posh sardines with chilli in oil.

I bought these on the back of your recommendation and had them for lunch today - wonderful, thank you!

deeahgwitch · 07/04/2025 18:42

John Lewis (and probably Waitrose) was going to come to Ireland pre the 2008 recession joining House of Fraser and Debenhams and were also to come to Belfast.
Sadly the Irish economy imploded and those plans came to naught.
House of Fraser and Debenhams are gone now.
M&S and Tesco are still here in Ireland.
I doubt Waitrose will ever come over.
If they do however open a store in Northern Ireland, I’ll be banging on the door with my list comprised of recommended items on this thread. 😀

Ecocool · 07/04/2025 18:45

Well we all enjoyed this thread but OP didn't bother letting us know if she did :(

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/04/2025 18:52

I misread the title of the thread. I thought it said you were going on a RAVE trip to Waitrose....which conjures up all types of images.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 07/04/2025 18:52

Their strained Greek yoghurt - as close to being in Greece as you can get and delicious served with Bonne Maman fig jam.

Their chocolate cup cakes.

😋

Vargas · 10/04/2025 10:24

The OP may not have returned but I have made a comprehensive list, thank you all! Our local Waitrose is merely mid-size, but I'm hoping some of these items will be in stock....

MrsFaustus · 10/04/2025 10:36
