Going on a rare trip to Waitrose this afternoon, what’s going in my basket?

As in title, driving somewhere today that has a large Waitrose, haven’t been for years, also looking to cook a nice (posh but fairly simple) meal tonight. What should I pop in my basket.

Well not my all time favourite Keralan Inspired Chicken Fry as the bastards have discontinued it since I last bought it a few weeks ago. Not happy!

Mikart · 04/04/2025 17:32

Frozen pastel de nata

FelixLighter · 04/04/2025 17:38

Nothing. The bastards support mutilation of healthy children and fire people for holding legitimate personal political views and convictions.

Their food is vastly overrated anyway. Also one of the least useful “reward” cards ever. I don’t think they do the “free” coffees anymore. And yes, I am a former customer.

Fresh Kalamata Olives

BeyondMyWits · 04/04/2025 17:50

Mozzarella stuffed meatballs (o ven ready tray with the tastiest sauce ever, bag of fresh pasta and a garlic bread baguette.

Pecorino and basil dip.

The tiramisu in the fresh desserts section.

Free coffee if you have a Waitrose card and reusable cup.

Do they still do the pecorino and basil dip? Not seen it in forever.

I've just googled and they do but it's definitely not in my local (medium sized) store.

They're very thin, pastry kind of biscuity. Very easy to eat. We discovered them during lock down when we were buying up biscuits like mad. They have a savoury taste. They come individually wrapped in gorgeous paper.

Oh, they sound good!

Will defo buy some. Thanks.x.

Also the cinnamon knot biscuits are incredible

hexsnidgett · 04/04/2025 19:12

Dried Williams pears, I am obsessed.
Plus Tims blackcurrant yoghurt and the no 1 chocolate!

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 04/04/2025 19:18

I'd go mad in their herbs and spices section.

Also, as a mum to a vegetarian, I'd stock up on their tinned mixed beans in water. My local Sainsbury's only stocks mixed tinned beans in chilli sauce or vinaigrette. Those beans are brilliant for bulking a sauce and providing protein.

The fresh cakes are nice. Do they still do bear claws? 🤪 The croissants too. 😋

No 1 Lucious Lemon Curd

Edited

It disappeared for ages but it has reappeared in my local store in the past few months. I buy it whenever I'm in there.

Waitress??
Bloody autocorrect

deeahgwitch · 04/04/2025 20:01

Why am I reading this thread and drooling - we don’t have Waitrose in Ireland ☹️

DilemmaDelilah · 04/04/2025 20:04

It's too late now... but could you please get me a couple of jars of really good dark marmalade WITH NO BITS. Thank you. Sorry to shout.

mizu · 04/04/2025 20:27

Their Waitrose own 72% dark chocolate is GOOD.

Shmee1988 · 04/04/2025 20:28

I was going to say this!! They are to die for. It's a shame you only get 4 in a pack though. I'd prefer 8 😂

I’m gutted about this too! It was so different from all the other generic chicken curries, I really miss it 😢

I'm the same reading about Booths thinking "well that looks delicious " but they don't have them down South

roshi42 · 04/04/2025 21:27

Celeriac remoulade.

PrinnyPree · 04/04/2025 21:35

Go to the cheese counter and get some Montognola Affine soft blue cheese, and ketjip manis sauce from the Asian aisle.

Going to have to try some of these other recommendations.

Superbloo · 04/04/2025 21:41

Waitrose frozen pain au raisin and cinnamon swirls are excellent

This is, sadly, true (about the mutilation of children). The whole John Lewis & Waitrose promote men in women face evil shit. They even allow men in women's changing rooms. When will this mad time be over?

Meanwhile33 · 04/04/2025 23:14

Their tinned black eyed beans are perfectly cooked and the only beans I’ve ever found that I can digest either no problems at all. I make them into home made baked beans and always have a stash in the freezer for quick healthy breakfast.
