Algarve.....where to stay?

Can anyone help me choose between Alvor, Tavira and Monte Gordo for a May break please?!
Am looking for a quietish hotel convenient for walks and architecture.

We stayed in Alvor and it was splendid, excellent restaurants.

Tavira is gorgeous, nice roman bridge and architecture. There is a boat that takes you out to a little beach and the Ria formosa is easily accessible.

Thx for the suggestions! Apparently there is currently extensive building work in Tavira, so it's looking more like Alvor...
