Can you feel your microwave?

I know this sounds a bit conspiracy theory, but I have always been able to feel when a microwave is switched on. Its not about one microwave, or a leaking microwave, I have felt this with every microwave I have ever been around, even when new.
It just feels a little bit funny, although if I stand round a corner the feeling goes.

Does anyone else know what I mean?

@Twotoast Glad to hear someone knows what I mean. I feel nothing with phones personally.

I get this too!

I get a hot flush when I have an xray (I had multiple of them during a hospital stay). I think microwaves are pretty safe though. I do remember being told to not look into the centre of them though for some reason.

No but I do find I get some sort of forewarning of messages and calls on mobile phones before they actually come through. Only seems to work if they're not on silent. My work iPhone is set to vibrate and I definitely feel stuff come through before it vibrates.

When I was pregnant with my second child, if I stood in front of a microwave that was running, he started moving around a lot. I kept some.distance away when I noticed that. I didn't have a microwave for first child so can't compare.

Not this one but our old one I could.

DuckieDodgyHedgyPiggy · 12/04/2025 22:22

Interesting! I'd not noticed it but I can believe it.

I hate standing in front of ours when it’s on, always have, even with previous ones. It makes me feel really weird, possibly in my head of course.

I get a weird prickling feeling in my finger if it's near the camera on my IPad.

Lyannaa · 13/04/2025 05:30

i thought it was well known that you shouldn’t stand in front of a microwave when it’s on?

Try reading Zapped: Why your cell shouldn't be your alarm clock. (Sorry dont know how to do a link) Very enlightening!

We had one in a kitchen at work and when it was being used, a computer screen in the office in the next room (through a solid wall) showed interference, so some of them obviously do emit something...
