8 hour flight, tips?

I'm going on an 8 hour flight on Monday, suggestions for keeping oneself entertained please? Other than my cross stitch project if I can get needles and scissors past security...

I won't have any access to wifi (it's £££££)
I do have generous hand luggage allowance
Meals and hot drinks/soft drinks free
I am travelling with dd 19

Is there a way of downloading Gmail to work offline as I could do with clearing my inbox?

How the fuck do I add books to my ancient Paperwhite kindle? Also please recommend books, I like all sorts!

I have all the usual card games etc.

And any tips for a less than confident air passenger would be great - would be fantastic to just nod off and wake up when we land...

Regardless of age, just log into Amazon account to add books to kindle

8hrs is fine surely if your travelling without small kids to entertain? Just read, sleep, eat, watch film on plane entertainment ( or take own downloaded to iPad or laptop). And you have another adult with you so just chat also

No way will you get needles and scissors onto a plane

the plane will give you a screen full of games, tv, movies music

you will be fed , drinks

just chill out enjoy the ride
read lonely planet guide of destination
get a book you want to read

I would just buckle up and watch two or three movies back to back on the inflight entertainment system. Enjoy the downtime!

Audiobook. Be lazy and let someone else read to you for the whole 8 hours.

I watched all of the Equalizer movies! They were great!

I had a 6 hour flight recently. I had a fully loaded Kindle, a magazine and a puzzle book. Plus Spotify (if you have the paid version or a free trial you can save playlists to listen to offline) and some downloads on BBC Sounds. Also took lots of snacks!
I agree that you've no chance of getting a needle and scissors on. I sometimes take a cross stitch away on holiday but it goes in my hold luggage.

I was allowed my knitting in my hand luggage on a recent flight .I had no problem going through security with it . It was bamboo needles but I also had a sewing needle and little scissors.
As long as the scissor blades are below a certain length they seen to be okay . I knitted the whole journey no problem .

You can get needles and scissors on board- they just need to be within size restrictions
