Swimming in Madrid

This simple task seems impossible

We want to go swimming next week in central Madrid to a public pool with lanes sessions. This is the pool: Centro Deportivo Municipal Escuelas de San Antón

It appears to be a pubic pool but there os no information about pay as you go swimming just members. All other information I can find on Reddit suggests I need an account and to book in advance and the cost will be 2.50 but I have no idea how to do this. I can read most basic Spanish easily and navigate a website but this is baffling me. I asked a colleague who teaches Spanish (although she teaches mainly French) and she was also baffled

Can anyone advise?

I can’t speak for Madrid but I used the public pool in Alicante last year and it was the most complicated, weird process.

I had to sign up online in the reception area with a QR code, show and register my passport, get some sort of paper ticket with a long number on which I then had to type into a machine and pay for swimming with cash.

I don’t know if that’s just the Spanish way but just be warned.

ah thanks. I have a feeling it will be convoluted! I will take a picture of my passport with me

I had a Google and there is mention of the Madrid Movil app for accessing public facilities. (This was on a page for outdoor pools which don’t open till May but it seems to be the same app for all kinds of stuff!)
it all does sound rather complicated, hope you have a great trip.

I have finally worked it out! It is the Madrid movil app- I read something similar too in Reddit! But the pieces have now fallen into place and I know what to do

@fatgirlswims- I was hoping it wasn’t that app as it has a very low score on the App Store. Hopefully it will all work out well for you

I did it! Had a lovely swim!

went the day before to check it out and the staff were so lovely trying to help us with google translate!

it was £2.13 and the best shower at a public pool!

£2.13 - total bargain glad you enjoyed.
We’re off to Spain in the summer, hotel has a pool and I’ll be spending €2 on the occasional glass of cava.
