Do you still have a landline in your home?

We do, but disconnected awhile ago when redecorating the hall. Just realised we never bothered to plug it back in now when doing online banking, and one of the contact numbers was the landline!

Both my parents and in-laws still do.

We have one because the internet is cheaper if we have a landline but we don’t actually have a phone

Birdsongsinging · 31/03/2025 21:27

No.

DustyLee123 · 31/03/2025 21:27

Yes, and an answer phone, I keep it incase one of our mobiles isn’t working. Also the kids know the number if they are ever in trouble.
It’s included in the broadband.

Sofiewoo · 31/03/2025 21:27

I’ve not had a landline since I moved out in 2008.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 31/03/2025 21:27

No, i have a spare Nokia mobile though, which is kept fully charged and in a box for emergencies (calling my mobile when I can't find it)

Sparsely · 31/03/2025 21:28

yes because the old people call on it

Needspaceforlego · 31/03/2025 21:30

We do but it's a VOIN phone.
It's used to call my mum.
Not convinced we'd keep it if it wasn't for her.

ItWasntMyFault · 31/03/2025 21:31

Yes but only because of elderly relatives.

Hanjan51 · 31/03/2025 21:36

Yes, many reasons:- because our mobile signal in the house so bad;
we needed to call the Police one night and rang through the landline and they knew immediately who we were and where we lived much better if there's a problem; i switch my mobile off (or keep it downstairs) out of my way/temptation if I can't sleep and so landline works for emergency; my mum and dad both remember the landline number if they need me; And mainly you never get a bad line/signal and it never cuts out like mobiles!

Daisymay2 · 31/03/2025 21:37

Yes, although it’s now VOIP, the quality of our mobile signal, any provider, is not that good, so family call the landline. The WiFi calling is better that it used to be, so we might change.

Springforwardatlast · 31/03/2025 21:39

I do but the the only time it gets used is when I can't find where I've put my mobile and I ring it from the landline.
A waste of money really.

This is me exactly. Although I have it for broadband

Muchtoomuchtodo · 31/03/2025 21:41

Yes. I find it easier to talk on than my mobile because of the shape!

I also leave my phone downstairs at night - dc know to ring the land line after 11pm if they need us!

BeSharpBee · 31/03/2025 21:41

Not reliably since 2008, we had one briefly in 2017 when DC1 was born as I had the usual PFB worries about communicating in an emergency. The only calls we ever had where my DM or scam/telemarketing. Fuck knows how they got the number as we only ever gave it out to DM 😅

DramaAlpaca · 31/03/2025 21:42

Yes, for two reasons. I have elderly parents in another country who can't cope with mobiles, and we live in a rural area where mobile signal can be dodgy. Sometimes I have to wave my phone out of an upstairs window to send a text, or go out for a walk to find a signal.

Realisation14 · 31/03/2025 21:42

Gave ours up in 2019. I sort of miss it tbh.

Alexa rings my phone 10× a day 😅

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 31/03/2025 21:46

The signal in this house is really patchy so we still have one. We call out on it but only my mum, siblings and our kids have the number to call in, which means I never mind answering it.

BigJanette · 31/03/2025 21:49

Just think, this generation of kids will never know the joys of sitting on the stairs, stretching the phone cord as far as it will go.
Or hear the tell tale click of an annoying sibling picking up the second phone, trying to listen in on your calls.
Or trying to remember to hang up before the hour was up to get free calls.
Or dialling 1471 to find out the last number called 🤣

Shubbypubby · 31/03/2025 21:50

In theory but I don’t have a phone plugged in. No clue what the number is. Not had one for years- only cals were scams.

JohnofWessex · 31/03/2025 21:50

Sparsely · 31/03/2025 21:28

yes because the old people call on it

My brothers landline is called the Batphone by my niece and nephew because the old bats use it to ring my sister in law

Everyone else used the mobile

Bologneselove · 31/03/2025 21:50

I the same for all the reasons you outlined.

Bologneselove · 31/03/2025 21:52

That was for hanjan51’s post.

Iwanttenofthose · 31/03/2025 21:54

No. I just had a ten minute argument with Three customer services about this because they refused to believe I don't have a second phone in my home that they could call me on.

PickledElectricity · 31/03/2025 22:02

Yes, we need to have one because DP needs to be contactable in more than one way when he's on call. There was an occasion when his mobile died and they couldn't get through to him in the middle of the night, which had ramifications for his team/budget because they ended up having to call someone who was Bank instead.

Also. The toddler LOVES calling 123 and listening to the time.
