Local news

Does your local BBC news focus on actual local news or do they find the most tenuous local link to national news and report that?

We have a local woman who was in Myanmar on today’s news giving her experience. Who cares??

I’m not interested in this. I listen to other outlets for world news I want actual local news on the local news!

If they manage to get local news it's normally after it's happened. Sometimes several weeks after it's happened.
Occasionally we've had something that was quite big locally and I'd have expected it to hit the news, possibly even the main England news page, and not a smidgen.

Ours has a mix of local news and tenuous links, particularly when the Olympics is on. Although tonight's surpassed itself with Basil Brush doing the weather Confused

I live near a large city so our news is anything that happens in and around the city centre

No attempt whatsoever at local news on the BBC.

It's either "North West" (Liverpool or Manchester), Stoke on Trent or Wales.

Useless. But they always have been.

I live in Northern Ireland there’s plenty of actual news if they could be bothered to do a bit of legwork. It’s the same on stuff like the bbc breakfast news show. It’s basically a magazine programme with a bit of news thrown in.

BBC Look North from Leeds is my local news programme. I rarely watch it now but it used to be very South Yorkshire orientated, especially big on Sheffield stories. Goodness knows why. When some Dowager Duchess who lived at Chatsworth died some years ago, Look North wittered on about it for what seemed like a fortnight, like it was really important and interesting. And, yes, the programme would go to absurd lengths to find a local angle on national or international news.

Our local news is London, so is usually just a repeat of national news or something based in the City. We live on the very edge of Greater London and rarely get a mention.
